A radar on a moving platform for three dimensional target recognition of a target on a flat or sloping terrain is described. The target is illuminated from a plurality of locations to generate images at many aspect angles. The radar is positioned at a low grazing angle with respect to the target for generating a shadow of the target on the flat or sloping terrain for each aspect angle of the plurality of aspect angles. The radar comprises an analog to digital converter for converting reflections from the target induced by radar illumination into target digital data and for converting reflections induced by the illumination from the flat or sloping terrain into terrain digital data. The radar further comprises a computer for extracting radar images of the target and its shadow(s) at the plurality of aspect angles at low grazing angles; computing the slope of the terrain from the terrain digital data; correlating a plurality of the radar images to compute a three dimensional image of the target from the shadow of the target upon the flat or sloping terrain; and classifying the three dimensional image for target recognition using a target recognition algorithm.

Technique for low grazing angle 3D SAR target recognition

The invention is an optoelectronic (OE) crossbar switch ( ) for both digital and analog signals, used either separately or combined, whose functions are reconfigurable and distributed. The invention allows multiple senders to be connected with multiple receivers simultaneously. The invention uses optical filters for wavelength division multiplexing and demultiplexing (WDM and WDD). A single fiber module input/output port carries multiple bi-directional signals that are optically filtered out in the module using WDM/WDD filters ( ) at each sender/receiver and then selected after optical filtering using photodiode detectors ( ) as detectors and switches. Laser transmitters ( ), photodiode detectors ( ), and smart electronics ( ) are used to implement the crossbar switch functions. In addition to optical filters, the use of time division multiplexing (TDM) and code division multiple access (CDMA) implemented either electrically or optically are taught to increase the number of independent users that the distributed switch handles. The switch can be cascaded with other switches using optical bridging circuits ( ) to create a scaleable interconnect fabric. An arbitration technique can be used which allows signals to be sent only when the intended receiver is capable of accepting these signals.

Opto-electronic distributed crossbar switch

Computer apparatus having a first processor that runs legacy software implemented using a first instruction set, and a second processor that runs new or updated software using a second instruction set. An operand memory is coupled to the first and second processors and stores shared operands in a native representation of the first instruction set. The second instruction set has an extended address space which is used to permit access by the new or updated software to the shared operands. To achieve this, the second processor has a software-implemented object request broker and a reference repository that contains information regarding the location and format of shared operands. When the new or updated software needs access to a shared operand in the operand memory, the nor or updated software invokes an object adapter for the type of operand being accessed, which in turn invokes the object request broker in order to obtain information from the reference repository, enabling the object adapter to locate and reformat the shared operand 24 as required by the new or updated application software. Methods that permit access to shared operands by the software that runs on both processors are also disclosed.
