A curable resin composition comprising: (1) a urethane (meth)acrylate; (2) a reactive diluent selected from the group consisting of i) a hydroxyl alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer where the acrylate group, which is attached to the carbonyl group, is attached to a hydrogen or a methyl group and the carbonyl group is attached to the hydroxyl group thru an R2 alkylene group containing 2 to 18 carbon atoms per molecule.

A process for making a curable resin composition comprising the steps of: (1) reacting a) an isocyanate; and b) a polyol mixture with a bimodal distribution of i) a first polyol mixture comprising polyols having an average equivalent weight of from 50 to 400; and ii) a second polyol mixture comprising polyols having an average equivalent weight of from 1000 to 5000 to form a urethane prepolymer; and (2) adding a capping agent to the urethane prepolymer to form the curable resin composition.

Solid compositions made from or coated with a non-melting organic polymer having a main glass transition temperature of at least 65&#xb0; C., few if any isocyanate groups and a wet aged glass transition temperature of up to 60&#xb0; C. are self-bonding materials that are useful in a variety of adhesive and molding operations. Under conditions of heat and moisture, these compositions will self-bond. The compositions can be used as adhesive coatings, which are solid and non-tacky and thus can be transported and stored easily under ambient conditions. These compositions are especially useful in applications in which, due to the location and/or orientation of the substrates, liquid or melting materials cannot be applied easily or will run off the substrates.

Solid, self-bondable organic polymers and methods for using same

A method for making joints in an electrical cable is disclosed. A first cable having polymeric insulation and a first bare conductor end and a second cable having polymeric insulation and a second bare conductor end are provided and joined create a conductor joint. A curable reaction mixture is applied over the conductor joint and cured to form a polymeric insulating sheath over the conductor joint and bonded to the polymeric insulation of each of the first and second cables. The reaction mixture includes a carbon-Michael acceptor compound, a carbon-Michael donor compound and a carbon-Michael reaction catalyst.

Solid, non-melting polyurethanes having a glass transition temperature of at least 40&#xb0; C. and free isocyanate groups are self-bonding materials that are useful in a variety of adhesive and molding operations. Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed towards using a carbon-Michael compound. As an example, a method of using a carbon-Michael compound to reduce heat transfer can include locating the carbon-Michael compound between a heat provider and a heat receptor, where the carbon-Michael compound is a reaction product of a multifunctional acrylate compound with a multifunctional Michael donor, and the heat provider has a temperature from 100 C to 290 C.

A cyclic carbonate monomer including the reaction product of (a) a divinylarene dioxide, and (b) carbon dioxide; a process for making the cyclic carbonate monomer; and a polymer such as a poly(hydroxyurethane) composition made therefrom. The poly(hydroxyurethane) composition made from the above cyclic carbonate monomer forms a reactive intermediate that can be used for making, for example, a poly(hydroxyurethane) foam product.

The sealants include a reaction product of a reaction system which includes at least one isocyanate, and at least one polyester polyol. Moisture curable compositions including silylated polymers and methods for producing the same are provided. A two component moisture curable system for producing a cured or cross-linked silylated polymer having improved compression set properties is provided. The two component system comprises a first formulation and a second formulation. The first formulation comprises a silylated polymer, water, and filler and the second formulation comprises the silylated polymer, a curing catalyst comprising at least one Br&#xf8;nsted acid, and a moisture scavenger. The final cured formulation may have a compression set, determined by ASTM D395 or ISO 815-1, of less than 100%, and in some examples less than 50% and in some examples less than 15%. This demonstrated improvement in compression set not only allows the silylated polymers to be used in applications where cyclic loads are applied but also enhances product durability.

Methods of forming olyurethane foams that are the reaction product of at least one polyisocyanate and a polyol composition are provided. The polyol composition includes at least one natural oil based polyol and at least one poly(propylene oxide) polyol and is desirably free of non-natural oil based polyols made from alkylene oxide units, other than propylene oxide units. The natural oil based polyol is present in a quantity sufficient to increase the processing window for the foam relative to a foam made using the same process and the same components, absent the natural oil based polyol. As a result, the present foams can provide very open-cellular structures with the superior performance properties of a poly(propylene oxide) polyol-based foam.

Embodiments of the invention provide for compositions including a crosslinkable silane-terminated polymer having at least one crosslinkable silyl group in each molecule. The crosslinkable silane-terminated polymer comprises a reaction product of at least a isocyanate capped hydrosilylated polymer and a polyol having a nominal functionality of at least 2 which is at least one of a polycarbonate polyol, a natural oil based polyol, a polyoxyalkyleneamine, a difunctional aromatic amine, a polybutyloxide polyether polyol, and a polytetramethylene glycol.
