A landing tool includes a body with an inner surface. A receiving groove is located on the inner surface and includes a first groove portion and a second groove portion separated by a tab. At least a portion of the tab is recessed from the inner surface of the landing tool. At least a portion of the second groove portion may further be recessed from one or both of the inner surface of the landing tool or an inner surface of the tab.

Systems and methods for reducing bit damage in a landing tool

A latching dog includes a dog body, at least one engagement arm protrudes from an outer radial surface of the dog body in a transverse direction, and at least one retention fin protrudes from the dog body in a longitudinal direction. The at least one retention fin maintains the latching dog engaged with a housing surface to keep the latching dog at a desired axial and/or rotational position while milling the housing and latching dog.

Cutter pocket design

A downhole tool assembly is configured for repeated and selective hydraulic actuation and deactuation. A piston assembly is configured to reciprocate axially in a downhole tool body. The piston assembly reciprocates between a first axial position and second and third axial positions that axially oppose the first position. The downhole tool is actuated when the piston assembly is in the third axial position and deactuated when the piston assembly is in either of the first or second axial positions. A spring member biases the piston assembly towards the first axial position while drilling fluid pressure in the tool body urges the piston assembly towards the second and third axial positions. Downhole tool actuation and deactuation may be controlled from the surface, for example, via cycling the drilling fluid flow rate.

Hydraulic actuation of a downhole tool assembly

In one aspect, embodiments disclosed herein relate to a secondary cutting structure for use in a drilling assembly, the second cutting structure including a tubular body and a cutter block, extendable from the tubular body, the block including at least three rows of cutting elements. In another aspect, embodiments disclosed herein relate to drilling a borehole, the method including disposing a drilling tool assembly in the borehole, wherein the drilling tool assembly includes a primary cutting structure and a secondary cutting structure, and wherein the secondary cutting structure ahs a cutter block having at least three rows of cutting elements. The method also includes actuating the primary cutting structure, drilling a first portion of the borehole with the primary cutting structure, actuating the secondary cutting structure, and drilling a second portion of the borehole with both the primary and secondary cutting structures.

A cutting structure for use with a reamer in enlarging a borehole in a subterranean formation includes a plurality of cutter blocks, radially extendable from a reamer body away from a central axis of the reamer body, each of the plurality of cutter blocks comprising at least one cutter blade thereon, wherein an angular spacing about the central axis of the reamer body between the at least one cutter blade on each of the plurality of cutter blocks is unequal.

A method for forming a nozzle retention body suitable for engagement to a drill bit includes manufacturing an unfinished nozzle retention body which includes an upper end and a lower end. The upper end forms an inlet that transitions into a flowbore. Nozzle bore for PDC bits

A drill bit configures hydraulic streams from the bit nozzles for the particular cutting structure to be cleaned based on the cutting structure location and geometry. The projected impingement location for each hydraulic stream projected fluid path is customized for a corresponding roller cone, with each nozzle or nozzle receptacle being individually positioned according to improve cone cleaning. At least two nozzles or nozzle receptacles should differ on the drill bit.

Cutting structure based hydraulics

A rotary cone rock bit includes one or more hole cleaning nozzles and one or more bit cleaning nozzles. The hole cleaning nozzles of one drill bit define a projected fluid path disposed at a lateral angle of less than six degrees in order to achieve a large impingement pressure on the hole bottom. The bit cleaning nozzles of the same drill bit define a projected fluid path disposed at a lateral angle of at least six degrees in order to pass within 0.5 inches of the teeth on leading edge of the lagging roller cone. This results in a drill bit that both cleans the bottom hole and cleans cone inserts.
