An OLED includes an anode, a light-emitting layer disposed over the anode, and a first electron-injecting layer disposed over the light-emitting layer, wherein the first electron-injecting layer includes at least one organic host material having a reduction potential less than &#x2212;1.0 V vs. a Saturated Calomel Electrode and at least one dopant material capable of reducing the organic host material. The OLED also includes a second electron-injecting layer disposed in contact with the first electron-injecting layer, wherein the second electron-injecting layer includes at least one organic material having a reduction potential greater than &#x2212;1.0 V vs. a Saturated Calomel Electrode, and a cathode disposed over the second electron-injecting layer.

A tandem white OLED includes an anode; a cathode; at least one broadband electroluminescent unit disposed between the anode and the cathode, wherein the broadband electroluminescent unit includes at least one light-emitting layer and produces at least one color component having an intensity less than desired; at least one color-compensating electroluminescent unit disposed between the anode and the cathode, wherein the color-compensating electroluminescent unit is selected to produce the at least one color component and to increase the color component intensity; and an intermediate connector disposed between each adjacent electroluminescent unit, wherein the intermediate connector has no direct connection to an external power source.

White OLEDs with a color-compensated electroluminescent unit

A tandem OLED includes an anode and a cathode. The OLED also includes at least two electroluminescent units disposed between the anode and the cathode, wherein each of the electroluminescent units includes at least one hole-transporting layer and one organic light-emitting layer. An intermediate connector is disposed between adjacent electroluminescent units, wherein the intermediate connector includes an n-doped organic layer and an electron-accepting layer, the electron-accepting layer being disposed closer to the cathode than the n-doped organic layer, and wherein the electron-accepting layer includes one or more organic materials, each having a reduction potential greater than &#x2212;0.5 V vs. a Saturated Calomel Electrode, and wherein the one or more organic materials constitute more than 50% by volume of the electron-accepting layer.

Tandem OLED having an organic intermediate connector

A tandem OLED includes an anode, a cathode, and at least two electroluminescent units disposed between the anode and the cathode, wherein each of the electroluminescent units includes at least one hole-injecting layer, one hole-transporting layer, one organic light-emitting layer, one electron-transporting layer, and one electron-injecting layer. The OLED also includes at least one intermediate connector, wherein each of the intermediate connectors includes at least one layer, and wherein each of the intermediate connectors is disposed between electroluminescent units, wherein the thickness of each layer in each of the electroluminescent units and the intermediate connectors is selected to satisfy the test condition that the voltage drop from the anode to the cathode is less than 4.0 V&#xd7;N (the number of electroluminescent units) at 20 mA/cm.

Tandem OLEDs having low drive voltage

A cascaded organic electroluminescent device includes an anode and a cathode. The device also includes a plurality of organic electroluminescent units disposed between the anode and the cathode, wherein the organic electroluminescent units comprise at least a hole-transporting layer, an electron-transporting layer, and an electroluminescent zone formed between the hole-transporting layer and the electron-transporting layer wherein the physical spacing between adjacent electroluminescent zones is more than 90 nm; and a connecting unit disposed between each adjacent organic electroluminescent unit, wherein the connecting unit comprises, in sequence, an n-type doped organic layer and a p-type doped organic layer forming a transparent p-n junction structure wherein the resistivity of each of the doped layers is higher than 10 &#x3a9;-cm.

Cascaded organic electroluminescent device having connecting units with N-type and P-type organic layers

An organic light-emitting device with improved performance including an anode formed over a substrate; a hole-transporting layer formed over the anode; and a light emitting layer formed over the hole-transporting layer for producing light in response to hole-electron recombination. The organic light-emitting device also includes an emission-protecting layer formed over the light-emitting layer, wherein the emission-protecting layer includes one or more materials selected to resist the surface contamination on the organic light-emitting layer and to ensure that there will be less surface contamination than if such layer had not been provided; an electron-transporting layer formed over the emission-protecting layer; and a cathode formed over the electron-transporting layer.

Providing an emission-protecting layer in an OLED device

An organic light-emitting device with improved performance including an anode formed over a substrate; a light-emitting layer formed over the anode for producing light in response to hole-electron recombination; and a performance-enhancing layer formed over the light-emitting layer including one or more chemical reducing materials selected to improve the performance of the organic light-emitting device. The device also includes an electron-transporting layer formed over the performance-enhancing layer, and a cathode formed over the electron-transporting layer.

A cascaded organic electroluminescent device with connecting units having improved voltage stability is disclosed. The device comprises an anode, a cathode, a plurality of organic electroluminescent units disposed between the anode and the cathode, wherein the organic electroluminescent units comprise at least a hole-transporting layer and an electron-transporting layer, and a connecting unit disposed between each adjacent organic electroluminescent unit, wherein the connecting unit comprises, in sequence, an n-type doped organic layer, an interfacial layer, and a p-type doped organic layer, and wherein the interfacial layer prevents diffusion or reaction between the n-type doped organic layer and the p-type doped organic layer.

Cascaded organic electroluminescent devices with improved voltage stability

A method of depositing organic layers on a substrate in organic light emitting devices is disclosed. The method uses a donor support which is coated with a transferable coating of an organic donor material selected as one of a plurality of organic materials useful in an organic light emitting device. The donor coating is positioned in transferable relationship with the substrate in an environment of reduced pressure. The donor support is heated to cause the transferable coating of organic donor material to transfer to a position on or over the substrate and to form a layer of the organic material on the substrate.

Method of depositing organic layers in organic light emitting devices

Disclosed is a red-emitting organic electroluminescent device comprising in sequence an anode, an organic hole injecting and transporting zone, a doped luminescent zone, an electron transport zone and a cathode, characterized in that said doped luminescent zone is comprised of a fluorescent phthalocyanine compound capable of emitting a wavelength in the range of 660 to 780 nm.
