A method for manufacturing a detector for sensing, detecting and monitoring environmental hazards and conditions, said method including the printing of an electronic circuit on at least a first side of a flexible, printable substrate; coupling at least two electronic components to the electronic circuit on at least the first side of the flexible, printable substrate; thermoforming the flexible, printable substrate to form at least one detection zone from: (i) at least one side of the flexible, printable substrate having an angle for emitting one of a light or a signal from at least one electronic component; and (ii); at least one side of the flexible, printable substrate having an angle for receiving one of a light or a signal by at least one electronic component; and encapsulating the flexible, printable substrate, forming a detector.

Reactors are provided that can include a first set of fluid channels and a second set of fluid channels oriented in thermal contact with the first set of fluid channels. The reactor assemblies can also provide where the channels of either one or both of the first of the set of fluid channels are non-linear. Other implementations provide for at least one of the first set of fluid channels being in thermal contact with a plurality of other channels of the second set of fluid channels. Reactor assemblies are also provided that can include a first set of fluid channels defining at least one non-linear channel having a positive function, and a second set of fluid channels defining at least another non-linear channel having a negative function in relation to the positive function of the one non-linear channel of the first set of fluid channels. Processes for distributing energy across a reactor are provided. The processes can include transporting reactants via a first set of fluid channels to a second set of fluid channels, and thermally engaging at least one of the first set of fluid channels with at least two of the second set of fluid channels.

A method of additively-manufacturing a flexible sensor system having a lattice topology includes a number of electrical interconnects, each having one or more electrically-conductive layers alternately sandwiched between two or more dielectric layers, and two or more sensors defining a sensor array, each sensor located at an intersection of and electrically connected to the interconnects on the lattice topology and electrically-connected to the interconnects. Each of the electrically-conductive layers includes a cured material base and silver, copper, aluminum, gold, platinum, ruthenium, carbon, and/or alloys thereof, and each of the dielectric layers includes a cured material base. The additively-manufactured flexible sensor system is configured to be installed on the surface of an asset for the monitoring of that asset.

Large structure monitoring with a substrate-free flexible sensor system

An extendable sensor system having a lattice topology includes a number of extendable interconnects having one or more electrically-conductive layers alternately sandwiched between two or more dielectric layers, two or more interconnect nodes, each located on the lattice topology and electrically-connected to the extendable interconnects to define a sensor array topology, and one or more sensors. The extendable interconnects are arranged in a serpentine pattern that is configured to be expanded, thereby extending the extendable sensor system. The expanded interconnects define an extended sensor system topology, and is configured to be installed on the surface of an asset. Methods of manufacturing an extendable sensor system are also disclosed.

A system for direct writing a conformal or free-form magnet includes producing a magnetic ink compound by mixing an photopolymer base and a magnetic material powder, extruding a layer of the magnetic ink compound through a nozzle on to a target substrate to form a layer, soft-curing the layer by exposing the layer to a first light, repeatedly extruding a layer and soft-curing the layer, then post-curing the magnet by exposing the magnet to a second light and an elevated temperature.

Direct writing of conformal and free-form magnets

In combination a wear indication sensor and a component of a gas turbine engine is provided. The wear indication sensor is secured to a first surface of the component of the gas turbine engine. The wear indication sensor comprises: a first terminal; a second terminal electrically connected to the first terminal; two or more of resistors electrically connecting the first terminal to the second terminal, each of the two or more resistors including a first end electrically connected to the first terminal and a second end electrically connected to the second terminal, wherein each of the two or more resistors has a known resistance; and a first electrode electrically connecting the first terminal to the first end of each of the two or more resistors; wherein the first end of each of the two or more resistors is electrically connected to the first electrode through primary conductive lines.

Wear indication sensor designs and methods of integration

A family of structures and designs for use in devices such as heat exchangers so as to allow for enhanced performance in heat exchangers smaller and lighter weight than other existing devices. These structures provide separate flow paths for liquid and vapor and are generally open. In some embodiments of the invention, these structures can also provide secondary heat transfer as well. In an evaporative heat exchanger, the inclusion of these structures and devices enhance the heat transfer coefficient of the evaporation phase change process with comparable or lower pressure drop.

Methods and apparatus for separating fluids are disclosed. We have discovered that, surprisingly, providing an open pore structure between a wick and an open flow channel resulted in superior separation performance. A novel and compact integrated device components for conducting separations are also described.
