A pedal assembly comprises a pedal arm; a pedal plate provided on a second end of an elongated lever structure of the pedal arm; a vehicle mounting bracket; and a retainer. The retainer is installed on the pedal arm and is configured to operatively connect the pedal arm and an end portion of an operating member so as to transmit the movement of the pedal arm between a first and a second arm position to a functional system. The retainer is in an open position for insertion of the end portion of the operating member therein. The retainer is configured to move or to be movable from the open position to a closed position in which the retainer retains the end portion of the operating member received therein. The retainer is movable from the open position to the closed position by insertion of the operating member therein.

Retainer for brake booster rod

Provided herein is a variable ratio pedal assembly for a vehicle for operating a push rod of a brake system, for example. The assembly includes at least one activation link connected via a pivot tube to an elongated lever structure of the pedal arm, an input link for connection to the push rod to activate the brake system that is operatively connected to the activation link, and an intermediate link connected to the input link and a vehicle bracket. The intermediate link pivots relative to the input link and the vehicle bracket, resulting in a variation in angle between the input link and the intermediate link. The variation in angle between the input link and the intermediate link creates a ratio that varies as the pedal arm is moved.

Variable ratio brake pedal

Provided herein is a pedal assembly for a vehicle with an intermediate link releasably connected to an actuation link of a push rod. The push rod is connected to a pedal arm via the actuation link and the intermediate link. The intermediate link has two parallel links that are capable of movement from a first position to a second position during vehicle collision using a release lever. Upon rotation to its second position, the release lever disconnects and forces the parallel links of the intermediate link away from each other, thus disconnecting the push rod and pedal arm. Energy is prevented from being transmitted to the driver's foot, thereby reducing injury to the driver. An actuation mechanism, such as a reaction bracket, is mounted to a vehicle structure adjacent the release lever, and may actuate rotation of the lever.

Safety release system for pedals

Provided herein is a pedal assembly for a vehicle with a push rod releasably connected to a pedal arm. The push rod is connected to the pedal arm via a pivoting reaction mount that is capable of rotating from a first position to a second position during vehicle collision. Upon rotation to the second position, the push rod is disconnected from the pedal arm, thereby reducing injury to the driver. The pivoting reaction mount may include a rotatable lever. An actuation mechanism, such as a reaction bracket, is mounted to a vehicle structure adjacent the push rod, and may actuate rotation of the pivoting reaction mount.

Positive release crash pedal mechanism

A parking brake actuator for a vehicle includes a toothed stationary sector fixed to a mounting structure, a brake lever pivotably mounted to the sector, a pawl mounted to the brake lever for movement between engaged and disengaged positions relative to the teeth, an elongated, substantially rigid release member mounted to the brake lever for movement relative to the brake lever between normal and depressed positions, and a motion-absorbing member connecting the release member to the pawl. When the brake lever is operatively connected to the vehicle brake cable and in a braking position thereof with the pawl in the engaged position thereof, moving the release member to the depressed position thereof without also moving the brake lever in the brake applying direction compresses the motion-absorbing member without moving the pawl from the engaged position thereof.

Safety release feature

A brake actuating assembly for a vehicle having a brake system is provided. The assembly includes a mounting bracket for mounting the brake actuating assembly to the vehicle, and a pedal arm mounted to the mounting bracket for pivotal movement about a pivot axis. The pedal arm is connectable to the brake system such that movement of the pedal arm in a brake applying direction activates the brake system and movement of the pedal arm in a brake releasing direction de-activates the brake system. An arcuate rack of teeth is connected to the pedal arm, and a pawl that includes a tooth engages the rack. The assembly also includes a spring that has a first end that operatively connected to the pawl, and the second end that is operatively connected to the mounting bracket in an opening that includes a surface extending between a first stop and a second stop.

Push to release brake actuating assembly for a vehicle

A retractable step assembly for use with a vehicle includes a mounting bracket for mounting the assembly in an operative position to the vehicle, a step pivotally connected to the mounting bracket so as to pivot about a substantially vertical pivot axis, a guide member provided on the step and movably mounted to the mounting bracket, and a lock assembly. The guide member is configured to rotate about and translate axially along the pivot axis relative to the mounting bracket to allow the step to be moved between a retracted position and an extended position. The lock assembly includes a lock movable between a locked position locking the guide member against movement relative to the mounting bracket, and an unlocked position permitting the guide member to rotate about the pivot axis and translate axially along the pivot axis relative to the mounting bracket.

A parking brake actuator for a vehicle includes a toothed stationary sector fixed to a mounting structure, a brake lever pivotably mounted to the sector, a pawl mounted to the brake lever for movement between engaged and disengaged positions relative to the teeth, an elongated, substantially rigid release member mounted to the brake lever for movement relative to the brake lever between normal and depressed positions, and a motion-absorbing spring connecting the release member to the pawl. When the brake lever is operatively connected to the vehicle brake cable and in a braking position thereof with the pawl in the engaged position thereof, moving the release member to the depressed position thereof without also moving the brake lever in the brake applying direction compresses the motion-absorbing spring without moving the pawl from the engaged position thereof.

Parking brake actuator with anti-release feature

A convertible container holding assembly includes a housing fixedly secured to a structure such as an armrest or instrument panel. A base is movable into and out of the housing between retracted and extended positions. The base includes a support and a stabilizing edge. The support and stabilizing edge define a portion of a cupholding area. A stabilizing arm is pivotally secured to the base and is positionable in an infinite number of positions such that it is capable of positively abutting the container when the container is positively abutting the stabilizing edge, regardless of the diameter of the container. A brake prevents the stabilizing arm from moving to its outermost position once it is forced into engagement with the container. The stabilizing arm may be reset by forcing it to its innermost position or by retracting the base into the housing and moving the base back to its extended position.
