An apparatus which includes a closure member and delivery systems for closing vessels in the body of a patient is disclosed. In one embodiment, the closure member is a hemostatic closure member having a cylindrical shape and an expandable volume on contact with fluids. The hemostatic member includes a functional passageway through the length of the member so that it may be mounted over a delivery catheter or wire guide for delivery against a vessel puncture or into another vacuslar environment, such as to fill an aneurysm sac. In another embodiment the closure member is a fallopian tube closure member which is deployed into the fallopian tube over a guide wire to prevent conception. The fallopian tube member includes a loop-shaped frame having barbs, a first layer of material, a binding wire, a second layer of material, and an expandable volume on contact with fluids.

Vessel closure member, delivery apparatus, and method of inserting the member

In one embodiment, a device for closing or occluding ASDs and PFOs, or other bodily passageways, includes a circumferential frame, a sheet of biocompatible material attached to the frame, and at least one anchor attached to the sheet of biocompatible material. In another embodiment, the closure device includes a circumferential frame, at least one crossbar extending across and attached to the frame, at least one anchor connected to at least one crossbar; and at least one sheet of biocompatible material (such as ECM material) attached to the frame. The anchor includes at least one grasping member having a structure, such as a wired loop, which is configured for releasable attachment to a delivery release member, which facilitates delivery of a closure device collapsibly disposed in a delivery catheter. Alternatively, one or more anchor end pairs may be connected to a delivery bar enhancing delivery and retrieval of the device.

Closure device and method of closing a bodily opening

Described are devices, methods and systems useful for achieving occlusion of vascular vessels. Percutaneous procedures are used to occlude and obliterate the greater saphenous vein, for example in the treatment of varicose vein condition caused by venous reflux. Certain embodiments encompass the deployment of one or more vascular occlusion devices via a through-and-through percutaneous procedure that leaves the vascular occlusion device or devices in a through-and-through condition.

Vascular occlusion methods, systems and devices

A closure device for closing a bodily passageway is provided. The device includes first and second frames and first and second crossbars. A sheet of biocompatible material is attached to one or more of the frames. The first crossbar extends across the first frame and has terminal crossbar ends connectively linked to separate sites on the first frame; the second crossbar is similarly linked to the second frame. The crossbars are attached to each other at a connection point, and they are each configured to bend away from the connection point when the closure device is deployed to close a bodily passageway. A method of making the closure device is provided, as well as a method for closing a bodily passageway using such a device. Further, a closure device assembly is provided, including a closure device, a delivery catheter housing, and a delivery release member.

Closure device

A valve prosthesis, such as an artificial venous valve, is described. The valve prosthesis has a support frame formed from a cannula and an attached covering that defines an opening adapted to move between a first position in which the opening is open to fluid flow and a second position in which the opening is closed to fluid flow. The support frame includes a leaflet support portion and a circumferential centering support element disposed adjacent the leaflet support portion with respect to a lengthwise axis of the support frame and mirroring the leaflet support portion with respect to a transverse axis of the support frame.

Implantable vascular device

An occlusion device has a covering attached to a support frame that includes a disc-shaped member and a crossbar that extends across a central opening defined by the disc-shaped member. The occlusion device has a first, or deployed, configuration in which the crossbar defines a curve that extends from the disc-shaped member, and a second, or resting, configuration in which the disc-shaped member and the crossbar lie substantially in a single plane. Each of the disc-shaped member and the crossbar include a core wire that extends through a lumen of a coil multiple times.

Multi-stage occlusion devices

Biomedical valve devices, support frames for use in such devices, methods of making such devices, and methods of treating animals, including humans, for valve-related conditions are described. The biomedical valve devices can includes a native tissue valve attached to a support frame or a tissue attached to a support frame in a manner to form a valve. The tissue valve or tissue can be autogenous to the animal being treated.

Biomedical valve devices, support frames for use in such devices, and related methods

A device for occluding septal defects or other bodily passageways including PFOs, includes an occluding body formed from a plurality of flexible outwardly radiating occluding wires connected to one or more biocompatible sheet materials. The occluding wires are joined together at proximal wire ends. Linking members connectively link the occluding body to a flexible, substantially linear anchor formed from at least one tube, coil, or bar. The anchor is configured for placement on one side of bodily passageway, whereby the longitudinal axis of at least one anchor extends across a transverse cross-section of the bodily passageway, anchoring the occluding body in place against the other side of a bodily passageway to close, occlude, or fill at least a lumenal portion of a bodily passageway. The anchor may include one or more grasping member(s) integrally formed or connected to the tube, coil, or bar for releasable attachment to an anchor engaging member, such as a biopsy forceps. In a further aspect, a closure device assembly includes a delivery catheter housing a collapsibly disposed closure device linked to a biopsy forceps. The biopsy forceps may be positioned in a locking catheter, which is configured to prevent inadvertent release of the closure device when held in a compressed state inside the delivery catheter. By positioning the catheter near a bodily passageway, such as a PFO, and disengaging the anchor engaging member from the grasping member, the closure device may be released so as to facilitate stable closure of the bodily passageway.

Spider PFO closure device

A multiple-sided medical device comprises a frame comprising wire or other resilient material and having a series of bends and interconnecting sides. The device has both a flat configuration and a second, folded configuration which a generally serpentine shape. The device is pushed from a delivery catheter into the lumen of a duct or vessel and may include one or more barbs for anchoring purposes. A full or partial covering of fabric or other flexible material such as DACRON, PTFE, or a collagen-based material such as small intestinal submucosa (SIS), may be sutured or attached to the frame to form an occlusion device, a stent graft, or an implantable, intraluminal valve such as for correcting incompetent veins in the lower legs and feet.

A device for occluding septal defects or other bodily passageways includes two anchors connected to an occluding body. The occluding body may be formed as a plug or tube of biocompatible material configured to occlude a bodily passageway. At least one of the anchors includes a grasping member in the form of a loop or suitably shaped structure, which is configured for releasable attachment to an anchor engaging member, such as a biopsy forceps. In a further aspect a closure device assembly includes a closure device linked to the biopsy forceps and collapsibly disposed in a catheter. By positioning the catheter near a bodily passageway, such as a PFO, and disengaging the forceps from the grasping member, the closure device may be released so as to facilitate stable closure of a septal opening, such as a PFO.

Closure device and method for occluding a bodily passageway

An absorbable and expandable closure member used to occlude or exclude a body lumen or cavity, such as a blood vessel, fallopian tube, duct, aneurysmal sac, etc., comprising a closure member comprising one of more sheets of a biomaterial that are rolled, stacked, or folded to form a multilayer construct of a generally cylindrical configuration for deployment through a delivery system, either as a singularly or part of a multiplicity of closure members. The biomaterial is derived from a source material, such as small intestinal submucosa or another remodelable material (e.g., an extracellular matrix) having properties for stimulating ingrowth of adjacent tissue into the biomaterial deployed within the bodily lumen. The closure member is deployed to the bodily lumen from a delivery sheath, cartridge, and/or over a inner guiding member, such as a wire guide or catheter.

Bodily lumen closure apparatus and method

A multiple-sided medical device comprises a frame comprising wire or other resilient material and having a series of bends and interconnecting sides. The device has both a flat configuration and a second, folded configuration which a generally serpentine shape. The device is pushed from a delivery catheter into the lumen of a duct or vessel and may include one or more barbs for anchoring purposes. A full or partial covering of fabric or other flexible material such as DACRON, PTFE, or a collagen-based material such as small intestinal submucosa (SIS), may be sutured or attached to the frame using heat or pressure welding crimping, adhesive, or other techniques to form an occlusion device, a stent graft, or an implantable, intraluminal valve such as for correcting incompetent veins in the lower legs and feet.

A filter may have an apical hub and a plurality of divergent legs. A first attachment member may be separate from, but attached to the second end of at least one of the plurality of divergent legs. A second attachment member may be separate from, but attached to a stent. The first and second attachment members may be separate from, but attachable to one another to releasably attach the filter to the stent. One of the first attachment member and the second attachment member may include an attachment wire that is positioned in a lumen of a tubular member or one of the first attachment member and the second attachment member may comprise a cannula. In some implementations, an upward motion applied to the retrieval connection member may disengage at least one attachment wire of the first attachment member from the second attachment member.

Retrievable filter

A valve prosthesis, such as an artificial venous valve, having a support frame and leaf structure comprising one or more leaflets in which the outer edge of each leaflet engages the inner circumference of the bodily passageway along a serpentine path urged against the passageway by an expandable frame, while the inner edges move in response to fluid to restrict retrograde flow. Optionally, one or more elements can extend from the support frame/leaf structure to provide centering support and/or protection from the leaflet adhering to the vessel wall. In one embodiment, the centering support structure comprises a second or third expandable frames attached to and extending from the proximal and/or distal ends of main valve structure and support frame. In another embodiment, one or more support elements extend outward from the valve support frame to engage the vessel wall to provide greater longitudinal stability.
