A multileaf collimator includes a plurality of beam-blocking leaves of a first type and a plurality of beam-blocking leaves of a second type. The beam-blocking leaves of the first type are alternatingly arranged with the beam-blocking leaves of the second type side by side. Each of the beam-blocking leaves of the first type has a trapezoidal geometry viewed in the leaf longitudinal moving direction comprising a wider end and a narrower end with the wider end being proximal to a source. Each of the beam-blocking leaves of the second type has a trapezoidal geometry viewed in the leaf longitudinal moving direction comprising a wider end and a narrower end with the wider end being distal to the source.

In a beam filter assembly, a base filter is employed to modify a beam quality of a radiation beam of a base energy level and a first filter slice is stacked with the base filter to modify a beam quality of a radiation beam of a first energy level higher than the base energy level. In a beam filter positioning device, a base stage carries a base filter and a first stage carries a filter slice. The base stage is provided with a first engagement site and a second engagement site. The first stage is provided with a first engagement site, a second engagement site, and an open port. The first stage and the base stage are each independently movable relative to the beamline. The first stage is engageable with the base stage when at least one of the first and second engagement sites of the first stage is aligned with at least one of the first and second engagement sites of the base stage, and is further movable with the base stage in unison when engaged.

A marker system includes: a first marker; and a second marker; wherein the first marker and the second marker are configured to emit light from one or more light sources coupled to the first marker and the second marker; and wherein the first marker and the second marker are configured to emit the light for detection by a camera. A method performed using a marker system includes: generating light using one or more light sources; emitting the light at a plurality of markers that are coupled to the light sources; and detecting the light emitted from the plurality of markers using a camera; wherein the act of detecting comprises using one or more filters to reduce ambient light to a level that corresponds with a noise level of the camera while allowing light emitted from the markers to be imaged by the camera.

A device for use with a radiation machine includes a first cone collimator, wherein the first cone collimator has a first end for receiving a radiation beam, a collimating portion for changing the radiation beam, and a second end for emitting an output beam, and wherein the first cone collimator is configured to be detachably coupled to a coupling device that has a plurality of moveable switches, and has one or more engaging portions configured to engage with a first subset of the plurality of switches. A method of using a cone collimator includes receiving a portion of a cone collimator, determining a subset of a plurality of switches that is pressed by the cone collimator, and determining an identity of the cone collimator based on the subset of the plurality of switches that is pressed by the cone collimator.

An NMR apparatus, sample contained in a sample holder is ejected from an NMR probe to the top of the magnet region where a sample latching mechanism holds the sample in place without requiring a continuing flow of pressurized gas, electrical power or other outside force. The sample can then be removed and/or exchanged with another sample that is also held in place without the expenditure of gas. When ready the operator depresses a lever arm enabling the exchanged sample to move into the probe.
