A method of preventing or minimizing the formation of haze in a biaxially oriented polyester film during the annealing of said film above its glass transition temperature, said method comprising: (a) selecting a biaxially oriented polyester film having glass transition temperature (Tg (&#xb0; C.)); (b) disposing a coating on one or both surfaces of said biaxially oriented film; (c) annealing said coated biaxially oriented polyester film at a temperature above its glass transition temperature, wherein said coating composition is selected from: (i) an organic coating comprising a low molecular weight reactive diluent; an unsaturated oligomer; a solvent; and a photoinitiator; (ii) an organic/inorganic hybrid coating comprising a low molecular weight reactive component and/or an unsaturated oligomeric component; a solvent; and inorganic particles, and optionally further comprising a photoinitiator; (iii) a predominantly inorganic hardcoat comprising inorganic particles contained in a polymerisable predominantly inorganic matrix; and (iv) a composition comprising a cross-linkable organic polymer selected from polyethylene imine (PEI), polyester and polyinylalcohol (PVOH), and a cross-linking agent.

The invention relates to A bi-axially stretched breathable film comprising a polymeric mixture, said polymeric mixture comprising based on the total weight of the polymeric mixture/&#x2014;at least 50% of at least one polyether block copolymer; and &#x2014;from 0.5 to less than 50% of at least one polyester. A process in which a wound roll of biaxially oriented polyester film having a glass transition temperature (Tg (&#xb0; C.)) is annealed at a temperature T(&#xb0; C.) above Tg where Tg&#x3c;T&#x2266;Tg+100 (&#xb0; C.) for a time t after thermal equilibrium where 1 hour&#x2266;t&#x2266;72 hours and cooled, for the purpose of improving the shrinkage of said polyester film.

The use of multilayer film structure comprising at least two unfilled layers of polymeric material substantially devoid of opacifying agent and at least two filled layers of polymeric material wherein said filled layers comprise at least 5% by weight of opacifying agent for providing improved tear-resistance in an opaque polymeric film, particularly a polyester film.

A conformable oriented polymeric film comprising a layer of copolyester derived from: (i) one or more diol(s); (ii) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid; and (iii) one or more aliphatic dicarboxylic acid(s) of the general formula CH(COOH)wherein n is 2 to 8, wherein the aromatic dicarboxylic acid is present in the copolyester in an amount of from 60 to 85 mole % based on the total amount of dicarboxylic acid components in the copolyester, wherein the copolyester is a random or alternating copolyester, and wherein after deformation by subjecting and maintaining the film to 7% strain, the stress within the film immediately after deformation dissipates to a residual value of less than 60% of the original value within 10 minutes of said deformation; and use thereof as a conformable medium for signage, advertising, graphic art and other display applications or as an overlaminate for such media.

Conformable copolyester film

A cleaner thermal transfer dyesheet comprises a supportive base material coated with a composition of a thermally transferable dye dispersed throughout a polymer matrix, the dye being composed of organic molecules alignable to form crystals having a major axis, and a molecular structure having at least one carbon atom bonded to a single moiety and positioned in the molecule such that the size of said moiety effects the rate of crystal growth along the major axis; the coating having in addition to the dye molecules, a minor amount of a crystallization modifier consisting of molecules essentially the same as the dye molecules except that said moiety is replaced by a more bulky substituent. Likewise, where the dye is recognized as having a molecular structure with one or more carbon atoms each bonded to a single moiety positioned to extend from the prime face, a crystallization modifier consists of molecules essentially the same as the dye molecules except that said moiety is replaced by a more bulky substituent. The effect of adding a minor amount of such crystallization modifie is to provide a cleaner, more stable dyesheet.
