The present invention discloses a process for the oxidation of fatty acids comprises reacting fatty acid with Ocontaining Ofor a period of 0.1-60 min at a temp in the range of −78 to 30 deg C. to obtain the corresponding products, wherein the conversion of the fatty acid is in the range of 80% to 100% and the process is catalyst free and co-oxidant free.
