There are provided a spindle motor and a hard disk drive including the same. The spindle motor includes: a sleeve supporting a shaft so that an upper end of the shaft protrudes upwardly in an axial direction and a bearing clearance filled with a lubricating fluid formed between the sleeve and the shaft; a housing provided so as to enclose an outer peripheral surface of the sleeve and forming a circulation hole between the housing and the sleeve in the axial direction; and a rotor hub fixedly installed on an upper end portion of the shaft in the axial direction, wherein a connection part is formed between the housing and the rotor hub so as to allow a sealing part on which a liquid-vapor interface is disposed and the circulation hole to be in communication with each other.

Spindle motor and hard disk drive including the same

There are provided a spindle motor and a hard disk drive including the same. The spindle motor includes a sleeve fixedly installed on a base member and including a circulation hole formed in an axial direction; a shaft rotatably inserted into the sleeve; a rotor hub fixedly installed on an upper end portion of the shaft; and a thrust member installed in an installation groove formed in an upper portion of the sleeve in the axial direction and forming a connection part allowing the circulation hole to be in communication with a sealing part formed by the sleeve and the rotor hub and having a liquid-vapor interface, wherein the connection part is formed between the sleeve and the thrust member in a circumferential direction, and a gap on any one side of the connection part in a radial direction is larger than a gap on the other side thereof.

There are provided a spindle motor and a hard disk drive including the same. There are provided a spindle motor and a hard disk drive including the same. The present invention provides a spindle motor which has superior operating characteristics. The spindle motor includes a stationary support shaft which is fastened to a base plate, a thrust plate which is fitted over the stationary support shaft, a sleeve which is rotatably provided around the stationary support shaft and is coupled to a rotor casing, and an annular stopper which is fastened to the sleeve or the rotor casing to support the lower surface of the thrust plate and prevent the sleeve from being removed. A first fluid sealing part is formed between the stopper and the thrust plate. The spindle motor further includes an annular sealing cap which is coupled to the sleeve or the rotor casing to store fluid between the sealing cap and an upper surface of the sleeve. A second fluid sealing part is formed between the sealing cap and the stationary support shaft.

Spindle motor

Disclosed herein is a spindle motor having a plurality of sealing portions. The spindle motor includes a rotor hub for rotating a recording medium mounted thereon, a rotating shaft secured to the rotor hub and supporting the rotor hub, a sleeve for rotatably supporting the rotating shaft, and a sealing member. The sealing member is secured to the sleeve and coupled to a bearing portion between the rotating shaft and the sleeve, and provides a rotary side sealing portion and a stationary side sealing portion between the rotor hub and the sleeve. The rotor hub has a ring-shaped inner wall facing the sealing member. The sealing member has a shape of a hollow cylinder, at least part of an outer circumferential surface of the sealing member facing the ring-shaped inner wall and at least part of an inner circumferential surface of the sealing member facing the sleeve being inclined and thus gradually tapered.
