A liner or cover system is provided, which can at times have at least a portion of its area exposed to wind and/or ground fluid action and consequent damage, and which is held in position against dislodgement and therefore against damage by said action by an anchoring means or structure. The system is held anchored from under it at a plurality of loci by said anchoring means or structure which exerts at each said loci a force at least equal to the maximum force of wind and/or ground fluid expected to act at any time at said loci independently from any force acting at any time at any other of said loci of said liner or covering. Also, there is provided a method for constructing said system which includes among its steps bringing together at least two sections or laps to be incorporated to form said liner or cover, joining the laps to form at least a portion of said liner or cover or system, and anchoring said liner or cover from below it at a plurality of loci to form at least a portion of said liner or covering. The loci at which anchoring is effected are distributed at least across the exposed area of the liner or covering, preferably in a grid-like pattern. Several embodiments of the system are included within the description, drawings and the claims. In use, the system can contain, retain or fend off fluid or liquid from contact as with the ground or other substance to be covered as in an impoundment, channel and/or in the prevention of evaporation of a liquid, e.g., water, or collection of a fluid, e.g., geothermal steam, or e.g., storage of agricultural products.

Covering or liner system and method for constructing the same

Improved method and means for laying a strip of film beneath the surface of the soil can include any one or more of the following: (1) method and means for starting the film; (2) method and means for centering the film in a film inlet of a plow; (4) method and means for guiding the film in a feed housing of a plow; (5) method and means for centering the film in a film distribution housing of a plow; and/or (6) method and means for supporting the film while earth is being laid down thereon.

Process and apparatus for laying a subterranean film

Oil floating on the surface of another liquid is contacted with crushed raw oil shale to adsorb the oil onto the shale. A vortex is created in the surface of the liquid, drawing the crude shale with oil adsorbed thereon beneath the surface of the liquid. The invention provides method and apparatus for adsorbing oil on shale, causing the crude shale with oil adsorbed thereon to sink below the surface of the liquid, recovering the crude shale with oil adsorbed thereon from below the liquid surface, treating the crude shale to separate the oil from the shale, and recycling the crushed shale into contact with oil on the liquid surface.

Reinforced concrete is prepared by embedding within it a reinforcing element of at least one rigid plastic gridwork (which is optionally filler reinforced) of integrally molded struts.

An asphalt composition having high ductility at low temperatures is obtained by hot-mixing asphalt and 3 to 7 wt. % of sulfur, based on the weight of asphalt, at temperatures below 300.degree. F. Small amounts of rubber further increase the ductility.

A laminate is provided having sufficient strength and hydrocarbon resistance to be used as a pond liner. The laminate has at least one cohesive batt of polypropylene fiber having a weight of about 100 g/m.sup.2 to about 250 g/m.sup.2 heat bonded to at least one polyethylene film having a thickness of about 10 to about 50 mils and a density of about 0.905 to about 0.925 g/cc.
