Lighting unit that can be mounted to a vehicle for illuminating work or emergency areas at night. The lighting unit includes a mechanically controllable driver for selecting a position of a central optical axis of the light emitter and an electronically adjustable refractive element for modulating a beam spread configuration generated by the lighting unit.

Lighting unit

Light bars, and lighting systems and vehicles that include light bars. The light bars include a plurality of light emitting modules coupled together at flexible joints to allow a single light bar to be affixed to surfaces of varying curvatures, such as an interior window surface of a vehicle. The size of the light bar is easily customizable due to its modular nature. In some examples, a controller or other electronic element is adapted to detect a number and/or configuration of modules in a given light bar.

Light beacons and light beacon systems including a lens or housing configured to collimate light emitted from two discrete optical focal points positioned along a central longitudinal axis of the beacon. The example lens can be, e.g., cylindrical or frusto-conical, and an outer surface of the lens defines at least a first region that is optically tuned to a first of the optical focal points, a second region that is optically tuned to a second of the optical focal points, and a third region that is optically tuned to both focal points.

An example beacon can include: a dome having an interior space; a prism positioned within the interior space, the prism having a first refraction portion and a second refraction portion, the first refraction portion extending for a first semicircle and the second refraction portion extending for a second semicircle; and a printed circuit board assembly supporting at least one light emitting diode, the printed circuit board assembly being positioned within the interior space of the dome. Light from the at least one light emitting diode is directed by the first refraction portion and the second refraction portion towards an obtuse angle relative to a position of the at least one light emitting diode.

The present application relates to a light beacon, light beacon assembly, and methods of its construction. In one aspect, a light beacon assembly includes a housing including a base and a lens cooperating to enclose an interior volume, the lens having a generally cylindrical shape. The assembly also includes a plurality of circuit boards positioned within the interior volume, where each of the plurality of circuit boards having a conductive tab extending from a first side, a conductive tab receiver near a second side, and a light emitting diode mounted thereon. The plurality of circuit boards are each positioned within the interior volume and extend perpendicularly from the base such that the tab of each circuit board is received at the tab receiver of an adjacent circuit board. The plurality of circuit boards are interconnected to form a structure having light emitting diodes oriented outwardly toward the lens.
