A slug rejector in which a coin-testing oscillator provides, when a coin or slug passes through the field of its coil, an output in its linear range which is used to actuate a coin diverting gate. To stabilize the operation of the coin-testing oscillator, a reference oscillator is provided which is continuously in operation. The output of the reference oscillator is used to generate correcting signals which are fed back to the oscillator circuit to maintain its output at a constant amplitude. The same correcting signals are also fed back to the coin-testing oscillator whereby its output for a predetermined coin or slug is a constant repeatable value.

This disclosure is concerned with improved bottom-edge margin indicators for typewriter paper and the like using an optical sensor-monitor wherein spurious effects of the edge of the paper exiting from the bottom margin sensor region and pre-printed material thereon are obviated, and in which the sensor-monitor of the bottom edge of the paper is preferably carried by the platen shield itself in manner that is particularly advantageous for optical sensing of the paper, with the sensor maintained in extremely closed proximity to the paper irrespective of its thickness, and adapted for simple and ready adjustment, if desired, to vary the margin setting.

This disclosure is concerned with using different types of energy to probe for objects in media (such as water) in which one of the different types (such as acoustic energy) is more facilely propagated than another (such as light), so as to enable said one type of energy to monitor for objects of predetermined characteristics within range of another type of energy propagation and, upon detection of such, to direct the other type of energy to indicate such objects, and enable correlation of the indications of the same by both types of energy.
