A collar configured to couple a burner to a partition plate is provided including a body having a diameter configured to couple to a diameter of the burner. A flange extends outwardly from the body. The collar is formed from a heat resistance material such that heat transfer between the burner and the partition plate is limited.

Inward fired ultra low NOinsulating burner flange

A refractory panel for a heat exchanger is provided having a body including a first planar surface having a plurality of refractory openings formed therein. A sidewall is arranged about a periphery of at least one of the plurality of refractory openings. The sidewall extends outwardly from the first planar surface and is configured to extend through an adjacent component into an inlet of a heat exchanger coil.

Refractory for heating system

A burner assembly is provided including a plurality of burners. Each burner includes a burner tube having an inlet, an outlet, and a burner axis. A partition plate is arranged generally perpendicular to a horizontal plane defined by the plurality of burner axes. The partition plate includes a plurality of partition openings complementary to and arranged coaxially with the plurality of burners. An igniter is located near the plurality of burners and is configured to ignite a fuel and air mixture provided at the outlet of the burners. An ignited carryover includes a substantially identical first opening and second opening formed in the partition plate adjacent the igniter. The first opening and second openings are sized such that a sufficient amount of the fuel and air mixture reaches the igniter without cooling the igniter.

A burner assembly for a gas furnace including a partition panel including an upstream side, a downstream side, at least two partition openings, and an intermediate transverse slot in communication with each of the at least two partition openings, wherein each partition opening is located adjacent to one another, and at least two burners configured to fire inward, the at least two burners operably coupled to the upstream side, wherein each burner is substantially aligned with each respective partition opening.

Inward fired pre-mix burners with carryover

A method for operating a furnace system includes initiating a start sequence comprising starting an inducer fan operative to induce an air flow through a burner assembly, a heat exchanger portion and a collector portion, determining whether an air pressure in the collector portion is above a first threshold value, starting a furnace ignition sequence including providing fuel to the burner assembly, igniting a fuel and air mixture and starting an ignition timer responsive to determining that the air pressure in the collector portion is above the first threshold value, determining whether the ignition timer has expired, determining whether the air pressure in the collector portion is above a second threshold value responsive to determining that the ignition timer has expired, and stopping the provision of fuel to the burner assembly responsive to determining that the air pressure in the collector portion is not above the second threshold value.

Furnace control system and method

A sound shield is positioned between the burner chamber of a furnace and the portion of the furnace immediately in front of the burner chamber which is typically a removable door. The removable door has slotted vents that allow air to be drawn into the burner chamber. The sound shield is positioned between the slotted vents and the burner chamber in such a manner so as to prevent substantial amounts of burner noise being produced by burning fuel from escaping through the vents. This is done without unduly restricting the flow of air through the slotted vents to the burner chamber.

Furnace sound shield

A draft safeguard apparatus for use in a multi-poised furnace having an inducer housing for receiving flue gases from a heat exchanger. The furnace flue pipe is attached to the inducer housing by an elbow that is rotatably connected to the inducer housing. An elongated sensor housing is mounted upon the elbow. The housing provides a flow channel so that the inlet section of the elbow communicates with the surrounding ambient. A limit switch is mounted in the housing to sense the temperature in the flow passing through the housing. When the furnace is operating normally, ambient air is drawn into the vent system through the sensor housing. If the vent system becomes restricted, the flow through the housing is reversed and the limit switch is opened when the reverse flow temperature exceeds a given limit. A baffle that includes a flat, rectangular-shaped top plate is mounted inside the elbow to form a chamber over the entrance to the sensor housing which directs the flue gas flow over the entrance when the vent system is unblocked and directs the flue gas flow into the gas sensor housing in the event that the vent system becomes blocked.

Safeguard for furnace draft system

An inducer fan assembly for use in a multi-poise furnace that includes an inducer housing having a fan opening in one wall through which the inducer fan can be inserted into the housings. The fan opening is closed in assembly by a cover. The motor is secured to a support plate having three circumferentially spaced tabs thereon that are bent outwardly at an angle of about 45&deg; from the plane of the plate. Resilient vibration isolators are mounted in each tab and are arranged to act against receiving brackets mounted on the cover to dampen vibration produced by the motor.

Inducer fan motor assembly

A draft safeguard apparatus for use in a multi-poised furnace having an inducer housing for receiving flue gases from a heat exchanger. The furnace flue pipe is attached to the inducer housing by an elbow having a first linear inlet section that is rotatably connected to the inducer housing and a second linear outlet section that is connected to the flue pipe. A bend section connects the inlet and outlet section of the elbow. An elongated sensor housing is mounted upon the inlet section of the elbow. The housing provides a flow channel so that the inlet section of the elbow communicates with the surrounding ambient. A limit switch is mounted in the housing to sense the temperature in the flow passing through the housing. When the furnace is operating normally, ambient air is drawn into the vent system through the sensor housing. If the vent system becomes restricted, the flow through the housing is reversed and the limit switch is opened when the reverse flow temperature exceeds a given limit.

A bypass hole is cut into a collector box cover to reduce the efficiency of a draft inducer fan when the fan is used with a furnace containing fewer burner-heat exchanger cells than the fan is optimally suited for. Thus the same inducer fan can be used for both a two-cell and three-cell furnace. A method for adjusting airflow in a draft inducer for a furnace includes collecting flue gasses from the heat exchanger cells, inducing a draft by moving the flue gasses from a collector box, through a housing, and out of an exhaust hole, and taking a portion of the flue gasses in the housing and re-entering the portion of flue gasses into the collector box instead of exhausting the portion of said flue gasses to the outside.
