A luminescent display device and a method for driving the same are disclosed which are capable of increasing the aspect ratio of pixel regions. The luminescent display device includes a display including gate lines, and data lines extending orthogonally to the gate lines, a first shift register connected to one end of each of the gate lines, to sequentially supply first scan pulses to the gate lines, respectively, a second shift register connected to the other end of each of the gate lines, to sequentially supply second scan pulses to the gate lines, respectively, switching elements each adapted to switch an ON voltage or an OFF voltage from the associated data line in accordance with the first scan pulse from the associated gate line, and to switch an OFF voltage from the associated data line in accordance with the second scan pulse from the associated gate line, drive switching elements each adapted to generate current in accordance with the ON voltage from the associated switching element, each drive switching element being turned off in accordance with the OFF voltage from the associated switching element, capacitors each connected between gate and source terminals of an associated one of the drive switching elements, and light emitting elements each adapted to emit light in accordance with the current from the associated drive switching element.

Luminescent display device and method that drives the same

An electro-luminescence display device includes a plurality of column lines, a plurality of first row lines and a plurality of second row lines. The plurality of first row lines cross the column lines and a first scan signal is supplied thereto. The plurality of second row lines intersects the column lines and a second scan signal is supplied thereto. Organic light emitting devices are formed at pixel areas which are defined by the column lines and the first and second row lines. At least two drive switches operate to drive the organic light emitting devices. The second scan signal applies later than the first scan signal to activate the drive switches. A kickback voltage is generated upon a voltage change of the first row line. A kickback compensation circuit operates to cancel the kickback voltage.

A shift register having a built-in level shifter includes a buffer outputting a shift pulse using a first clock signal and a first supply voltage via voltages at first and second nodes; a first controller controlling the voltage of the first node via the start pulse and the second node; and a second controller controlling the second node voltage using the first and second supply voltage via the start pulse and the second clock signal. The level shifter includes a third controller forming a current path between third supply voltage input line and first supply voltage input line controlling a third node using the first supply voltage and a third supply voltage via the voltage of the second node and two of first to fourth clock signals; and an output part outputting the level-shifted shift pulse using the first and third supply voltage via the voltage at the third node.
