Optimizing performance between a wireless distribution system (WDS) and a macro network(s). In this regard, a macro network optimization system is configured to detect a performance indicator(s) between a WDS and a macro network and optimize the performance of the macro network based on the detected performance indicator(s). The macro network optimization system analyzes a macro network performance report provided by the macro network and/or a WDS performance report provided by the WDS to detect the performance indicator(s) between the WDS and the macro network. The macro network optimization system reconfigures operations of one or more macro network elements to optimize performance between the WDS and the macro network based on the detected performance indicator(s). By detecting and optimizing performance between the WDS and the macro network, capacity, throughput, and/or coverage of the WDS and the macro network can be improved, thus providing better quality of experience (QoE).

Optimizing performance between a wireless distribution system (WDS) and a macro network(s)

Distributed communications systems (DCSs) supporting virtualization of remote units as citizens band radio service (CBRS) devices (CBSDs) are disclosed. In examples discussed herein, the DCS includes a routing circuit that is coupled to a number of remote units configured to communicate a downlink communications signal(s) and an uplink communications signal(s) in one or more CBRS channels. In this regard, a CBRS control circuit is provided to present each of the remote units as a uniquely identifiable virtual CBSD to a spectrum access system (SAS) and facilitate communications between the SAS and the remote units. As such, the SAS may be able spoofed to treat the uniquely identifiable virtual CBSD as real CBSDs to uniquely identify each of the remote units for CBRS channel assignment and/or transmission power control. As a result, it may be possible to support CBRS in the DCS in compliance with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requirements.

Distributed communications systems (DCSs) supporting virtualization of remote units as citizens band radio service (CBRS) devices (CBSDs)

Wireless communications systems supporting carrier aggregation and selective distributed routing of secondary cell component carriers based on transmission power demand or signal quality are disclosed. The wireless communications system includes a signal router circuit communicatively coupled to a signal source. The signal router circuit is configured to distribute a primary cell component carrier, including control information, to each of multiple remote units to be distributed to any mobile device in a respective coverage area of any remote unit to avoid the need to support handovers. In addition, the signal router circuit is configured to selectively distribute one or more secondary cell component carriers to any subset of the remote units based on at least one of transmission power demand or signal quality associated with the remote units.

Systems and methods for splitting cells in a network of Internet of Things (IOT) may evaluate a network metric such as receives signal strength indicator (RSSI) for end devices to determine a general network activity level. When the network metric falls below a predetermined threshold, the cell splitting controller may cause the cell to split in such a manner as to offload some portion of the end devices on an adjacent gateway and/or change frequencies to reduce the likelihood of collision. By splitting cells in this fashion, the density of end devices served by a single gateway is reduced, fewer collisions occur statistically, and the user experience may be improved.

Systems and methods for splitting cells in a network for internet of things (IoT)

Systems and assemblies for providing both cellular and passive optical local area network (POLAN) data signals along a single, shared fiber optic backbone within an in-building network architecture are provided herein. Systems include a headend unit that combines data signals from a cellular network and optical line terminal (OLT) onto the fiber optic backbone, which is then connected to a series of daisy-chained fiber optic assembly units. An example fiber optic assembly unit includes an asymmetric coupler that splits an input fiber optic signal from the fiber optic backbone into an output fiber optic signal and a throughput fiber optic signal that is fed back onto the continuing fiber optic backbone. The output fiber optic signal is filtered into dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) channels for providing data signals to a wireless or cellular network and further split into multiple passive optical network (PON) outputs for a local area network (LAN).

Embodiments of the disclosure relate to a remote unit supporting radio frequency (RF) spectrum-based coverage area optimization in a wireless distribution system (WDS). A remote unit in a WDS includes a plurality of sector RF paths configured to support sectored coverage areas around the remote unit. Each of the sector RF paths includes an antenna configured to communicate an RF communications signal(s) in an RF spectrum(s). A processing circuit determines a selected downlink sector communications signal(s) to be distributed at a selected power from a selected sector RF path(s) in a selected RF spectrum(s) and provides the selected downlink sector communications signal(s) to the selected sector RF path(s). In this manner, the processing circuit can independently configure a sector RF path(s) to distribute a downlink RF communications signal(s) in an RF spectrum(s) at a desired power(s), thus enabling directional capacity optimization and/or RF interference mitigation around the remote unit.

Remote unit supporting radio frequency (RF) spectrum-based coverage area optimization in a wireless distribution system (WDS)

Wireless communications systems supporting selective routing of carrier aggregation (CA) and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) data streams are disclosed. The wireless communications system includes a signal router circuit communicatively coupled to one or more signal sources. The signal router circuit is configured to receive MIMO and CA communications signals for data transmission from the signal source(s) and distribute the communications signals (e.g., data streams) to remote units communicatively coupled to the signal router circuit. The signal router circuit determines whether to route each data stream in a MIMO configuration, a CA configuration, or both to provide an improved wireless communications environment for mobile communications devices connected to the remote units. The improved wireless communications environment may increase throughput, reduce interference and/or noise, and/or improve the transmission quality of wireless communications signals.

In examples, the distributed communications system includes a routing circuit that is configured to receive downlink communications signals from signal sources of respective multiple service providers and route the downlink communications signals to a plurality of remote units. The remote unit is configured to distribute the received downlink communications signals for the multiple service providers to subscriber devices such that the distributed communications system supports multiple service providers. The distributed communications system also includes a spectrum usage coordination circuit configured to coordinate the usage of spectrum between the remote units in the distributed communications system. The spectrum usage coordination circuit is configured selectively decide which channels of the shared spectrum are to be routed to specific remote units based on shared spectrum input information.

Coordination of shared spectrum distribution to remote units in distributed radio communications systems

Embodiments of the disclosure relate to optimizing power efficiency of a power amplifier circuit to reduce power consumption in a remote unit in a wireless distribution system (WDS). A power amplifier circuit is provided in the remote unit to amplify a received input signal associated with a signal channel(s) to generate an output signal at an aggregated peak power. In this regard, a control circuit is configured to analyze at least one physical property related to the signal channel(s) to determine a maximum output power of the power amplifier circuit. Accordingly, the control circuit configures the power amplifier circuit according to the determined maximum output power. By configuring the maximum output power based on the signal channel(s) in the input signal, it may be possible to optimize the power efficiency of the power amplifier circuit, thus helping to reduce the power consumption of the remote unit.

Optimizing power efficiency of a power amplifier circuit to reduce power consumption in a remote unit in a wireless distribution system (WDS)

One embodiment of the disclosure relates to radio frequency (RF) communication channel reconfiguration in remote antenna unit (RAU) coverage areas in a distributed antenna system (DAS) to reduce RF interferences. In this regard, a spectrum optimization unit dynamically reconfigures RF communication channels employed by RAU coverage areas in a DAS to reduce or avoid adjacent-channel and/or co-channel RF interferences. Each of the RAU coverage areas provides a respective sniffed RF signal to the spectrum optimization unit. The spectrum optimization unit analyzes the respective sniffed RF signal to determine a respective lesser-interfered RF communication channel for an RAU coverage area and dynamically reconfigures the RAU coverage area to communicate on the respective lesser-interfered RF communication channel. By dynamically reconfiguring the RAU coverage areas to communicate on respective lesser-interfered RF communication channels, it is possible to reduce or avoid RF interferences to provide improved capacity, throughput, and coverage in the DAS.

Digital wireless distributed communications systems (WDCS) employing a centralized spectrum chunk construction of communications channels for distribution to remote units are disclosed. Individual, discrete communications channels received from one or more signal sources are centrally constructed into spectrum chunks before being distributed to remote units. When the communications channels are constructed into spectrum chunks, the individual communications channels are positioned in their respective defined center radio frequency (RF) frequencies of their respective communications band before being distributed to the remote units. Thus, the remote units do not have to include the additional cost and associated power consumption of processing circuitry to construct the communications bands for individual communications channels. The remote units can up-convert the received spectrum chunks, which have already been centrally band constructed, to their respective frequencies according to their communication band(s).

Digital wireless distributed communications system (WDCS) employing a centralized spectrum chunk construction of communications channels for distribution to remote units to reduce transmission data rates

Embodiments of the disclosure relate to partitioning a time-division-based communications link for communicating multiple types of communications signals in a wireless distribution system (WDS). A WDS is configured to communicate multiple types of communications signals over a time-division-based communications link. For example, the WDS may be configured to communicate a digital baseband signal as a first type of communications signal and an Ethernet signal as a second type of communications signal. In this regard, a protocols division routing circuit(s) is provided in the WDS and configured to partition the time-division-based communications link between multiple types of communications signals based on a link configuration ratio. By partitioning the time-division-based communications link based on the link configuration ratio, it is possible to partition the time-division-based communications link according to actual capacity needs of the multiple types of communications signals, thus optimizing throughput and performance of the WDS.
