An apparatus and a method for providing remote supervisory override of a lockout at a workstation is disclosed. The apparatus includes a first workstation an override response module which is configured to receive an override request message. The override response module provides an override response message that includes an indicator of an action authorized by the user of the apparatus.

Remote system override

A system and a method for providing remote supervisory override of a lockout at a workstation is disclosed. The system includes a first workstation and a second workstation. The first workstation has lockout functionality, wherein at least a portion of the functionality of the workstation is locked when a lockout module in the first workstation detects a violation of a predetermined rule. The first workstation includes an override request module that sends an override request message to the second workstation, which is associated with a supervisor. The second workstation includes an override response module that the supervisor uses to send an override response message back to the first workstation. When the first workstation receives an override response message that authorizes overriding the rule, the first workstation is unlocked.

A workstation and a method for providing remote lockout override is disclosed. The workstation includes lockout functionality, wherein at least a portion of the functionality of the workstation is locked when a lockout module in the workstation detects a violation of a predetermined rule. The workstation includes an override request module that provides a user with a menu of active supervisors and sends an override request message to a supervisor selected from the menu of active supervisors. When the workstation receives an override response message that authorizes overriding the rule, the workstation is unlocked.
