An electronic voting system is described that utilizes printed vote records (PVRs) in which a voter's vote selections are recorded in voter readable characters. Optical character recognition (OCR) techniques may then be utilized to scan the PVR to record the voter's selections. The OCR data is then utilized to generate the cast vote record. Thus, the electronic voting system directly interprets the voter selections from the PVR just as the voter sees the data. In this manner 'what you see is what you get' printed vote record data is provided for a voter's viewing and that same data is used to generate the cast vote record.

The present disclosure provides various embodiments of electronic devices, electronic voting systems and methods of voting that enable paper documents to be displayed 'under glass' for user review. In the embodiments disclosed herein, a paper viewing area is provided within an electronic device or electronic voting system for temporarily displaying a paper document to a user behind a transparent surface, which prevents the user from touching the paper document. In some embodiments, the transparent surface may be a touch screen and/or a display device of the electronic device or electronic voting system, and the paper document may be disposed behind and viewable through the touch screen and/or the display device when the paper document is displayed within the paper viewing area.

Electronic systems, devices and methods for displaying paper documents

The present disclosure provides various embodiments of an electronic voting device that provides multiple, fixed viewing angles for viewing a display screen of the electronic voting device, and associated methods for configuring the electronic voting device for standing and sitting voters. The electronic voting device described in the present disclosure is positionable on a support surface in two fixed positions or orientations. When the electronic voting device is positioned on the support surface in a first device orientation (e.g., a standing orientation), the electronic voting device provides a first, fixed viewing angle that enables standing voters to optimally view the display screen. When the electronic voting device is positioned on the support surface in a second device orientation (e.g., a sitting orientation), the electronic voting device provides a second, fixed viewing angle that enables sitting voters to optimally view the display screen.

The present disclosure provides various embodiments of systems and methods of tracking information pertaining to assets, such as but not limited to, voting systems and other voting equipment used in an election (i.e., election equipment). In the present disclosure, a low-power electronic display tag (such as an electronic paper tag, or 'e-paper' tag) is affixed to an asset to track information pertaining to that asset. Unlike conventional applications that utilize low-power electronic display tags (such as, e.g., asset tracking and ESL applications), the information displayed on the electronic display tag described herein is collected and dynamically updated by the asset being tracked.

An electronic voting system that includes transportable voting equipment is described. Such transportable voting equipment includes a carrier that may be transportable and easily moved to enable curbside/mobile voting. The carrier may be ergonomically shaped for usage by passing through a vehicle window and resting in a voter's lap. In one embodiment, the carrier may include a printer to produce a printed vote record. The electronic voting system may include the use of a base station (for example located inside a polling building), the curbside/mobile carrier, and a smart panel that is dockable and removable to/from both the base station and the curbside/mobile carrier.

A portable electronic voting machine is provided. The portable electronic voting machine comprises a smart panel configured to display voting process information; and a base station configured to house the smart panel. The electronic voting machine is configured to have the smart panel be removable from the base station and store voting information selected while the smart panel is removed from the base station.

Method and apparatus for transportable voting equipment to provide curbside voting, mobile voting, and printing of printed vote records

Techniques for configuring and operating a network connected election voting system are provided. Voting devices are network connected to a voting system controller. Alerts are provided when a ballot becomes stranded on a voting device. The stranded ballots may be untransferrable ballots or interrupted ballots. A recovery mechanism is provided to obtain the data for untransferrable ballots. The alerts may be provided at a display on the voting device, controller or both.

System and method for identifying and recovering stranded voting ballots

A voting system provides haptic feedback to a visually impaired voter to guide the voter. The haptic feedback may include vibration. The vibration may provide guidance by vibrating tactile written instructions, such as braille. The vibration may also provide guidance to the voter via the location of the vibration. A particular tactile instruction may be selectively highlighted at the appropriate time in the voting process and/or appropriate location on the voting device. In this manner, haptic guidance and cues are provided to a visually impaired voter. In one embodiment, the haptic feedback is provided by vibrating a relevant braille instruction at the relevant time during the voting process. In this manner touch sense guidance and cues are provided to a voter to emphasize what braille instructions are currently relevant to a voter and/or the location of such relevance.
