An electrical device for a vehicle includes a housing having an upper portion and a lower portion. An upper light source attaches to the upper portion and a light guiding element attaches to the upper portion to receive the upper light from the upper light source and direct outgoing light in a substantially uniform direction. A display attaches to the upper portion to receive the outgoing light for illumination of the display. A lower member couples with the lower portion. A lower light source attaches to the lower member. A collimator attaches to the lower member to receive incoming light from the lower light source and change directions of the incoming light to a collimated beam. A lens element attaches to the lower portion to direct the collimated beam at a target.

Electrical device for a vehicle running board

An LED connector has an LED component and a heat sink. The heat sink includes a plurality of conductors having mounting pads. The conductors are formed from an electrically and thermally conductive material. The LED component is mounted to the mounting pads. The conductors define both electrical circuits and thermal heat sinks for the LED connector.

A light pipe assembly includes a light pipe and an optical concentrator. The light pipe is elongated between opposite ends along a longitudinal axis. The light pipe is formed from a light transmissive material. The optical concentrator is joined to the first end of the light pipe and includes an end section and an opposite coupling end connected to the first end of the light pipe. The end section is configured to receive light generated by a light source. The optical concentrator is formed from a light transmissive material that conveys light through the optical concentrator. The optical concentrator focuses the light generated by the light source into the first end of the light pipe.

A light distribution assembly includes a housing having a longitudinal length and having one or more light sources mounted to the housing. The light distribution assembly also includes a coupler section having a body extending from the housing along a longitudinal axis between a light entry end and a light exit end. The light entry end has a major axis extending in a first direction and the light exit end has a major axis extending in a second direction, wherein the coupler section is shaped such that the body is rotated about the longitudinal axis of the coupler section so that first direction is approximately perpendicular relative to the second direction. One or more light pipes are attached to the light exit end of the coupler section.

Light distribution assembly

A light pipe is configured to provide a wide effective angle of illumination while simultaneously providing a substantially uniform distribution of light along a length of the light pipe. One or more reflective surfaces not aligned with an inner surface are disposed such that when at least one reflective surface is illuminated, light is emitted from the light pipe at one or more specified angles of light emission. A plurality of reflection points are formed on the inner surface to cause the specified angles when at least one of the reflective surfaces is illuminated. A light pipe is also provided having one or more exterior protrusions configured to function as a secondary light source. A second portion of an outer surface of the light pipe has a radius of curvature which differs from the radius of curvature of the first portion of the outer surface.

A low voltage lamp assembly includes a lamp housing having an illumination bore extending along an optical axis and that receives a light transmission member. A low voltage light source is situated within the bore and is axially aligned with the optical axis. A bushing is positioned within the bore and surrounds a portion of the light source. First and second wires extending from the lamp assembly for establishing an electrical connection to the light source. The wires are received by a strain relief pod separated from the lamp housing. The strain relief pod includes a current limiter therein.

A light pipe having one or more exterior protrusions that function as a secondary light source and an alignment component. The one or more exterior protrusions may provide a secondary light source by reflecting light from a primary light source. The one or more exterior protrusions also may function to align the light pipe with a lamp assembly or an object on which the light pipe is mounted. Further, a lamp assembly having a light pipe receiving portion, with one or more slits to allow an opening to expand upon insertion of the light pipe, and to provide a retention force upon contraction.

Apparatus, method and article of manufacture for a light pipe and lamp assembly

A light pipe may be used to illuminate an elongated area. Light may emanate laterally relative to the axis of the light pipe, and the light intensity is substantially uniform along the length of the light pipe. The light pipe may include a translucent member and a opaque reflective member that is separated from the translucent member by an air gap. A band of reflective material may be located on an exterior surface of the translucent member. The entire light pipe may be formed by co-extrusion of the translucent member, the band of reflective material and the opaque section through a single co-extrusion die. Light emitted laterally from the translucent member toward the arcuate opaque reflective member and band of reflective material may be reflected laterally through the translucent member transverse to the axis of the light pipe, so that all light extends through the front surface of the translucent member.

Press-fit electrical connector

A light transmitting strip or light pipe 2 is used to illuminate an elongate area along which the light pipe 2 extends. The illumination is provided by light emanating laterally relative to the axis of the light pipe, and the light intensity is substantially uniform, at least to an observer, along the length of the light pipe 2. The light pipe 2 has a clear light guide section 4 and an opaque section 10 that is separated from the light guide section 4 by an air gap 8. The clear section 4 and the opaque section 10 are joined by top and bottom couplings 12 and 14, and the two sections are formed by coextruding an acrylic resin through a single coextrusion die. Light emitted laterally from the light guide 4 toward the arcuate opaque section 10 is reflected laterally through the clear light guide 4 transverse to the axis of the light pipe 2, so that all light extends through the front surface 6 of the light guide 4. By separating the reflecting opaque section 10 from the clear light guide 2 by an air gap 8, the lighting intensity can be more uniform over the length of the lighting strip or light pipe.
