A rotary hammer and a power tool. The rotary hammer is operable in an idle mode and a hammer mode and comprises a housing and a barrel positioned in the housing and having a forward portion. A ram is positioned within the barrel and is movable relative to the barrel between hammering positions and an idle position. In some aspects, a ram catcher assembly is positioned along the axis adjacent the forward portion of the barrel to releasably hold the ram in the idle position. The ram catcher assembly includes a friction member frictionally engageable with the ram and a damping member at least partially surrounding the friction member. As the ram moves to the idle position with a force, the damping member absorbs at least a portion of the force and the member applies friction to the ram.

A reciprocating saw including a housing, a motor supported by the housing, a spindle mounted for reciprocation relative to the housing and having a front end for supporting a saw blade, the spindle being movable through a cutting stroke and a return stroke, the cutting stroke having a stroke length, and a pivot body interconnecting the spindle and the motor. The position of the pivot axis of the pivot body may be movable relative to the housing to change the stroke length of the spindle. A shock absorber may be operatively positioned between the motor and the front end of the spindle and may be at least partially mounted within the spindle.

A power tool and a power cord. The power tool comprises a housing defining a housing thread, an electric motor, an electric circuit connected to the motor, a power cord removably connectable with the housing, the cord being connectable to a power source and to the circuit to connect the circuit to the power source, and a locking assembly for locking the power cord to the housing and to the circuit. The cord includes a cord electrical connector, and a mounting portion defining a cord thread, the cord thread being complementary to and engageable with the housing thread. The locking assembly includes a first locking member supported by one of the housing and the mounting portion, and a second locking member supported by one of the housing and the mounting portion, the first locking member being movable between a locking position, in which the first locking member engages the second locking member, and an unlocked position, in which the first locking member is disengaged from the second locking member. To connect the cord to the housing and to the circuit, the cord electrical connector is electrically connected to the circuit, the mounting portion is engaged with the housing to engage the cord thread and the housing thread, and the first locking member is moved to the locking position so that the first locking member engages the second locking member to prevent the cord thread and the housing thread from being disengaged.

A reciprocating saw including a housing, a spindle mounted for reciprocation relative to the housing and having a front end adapted to support a saw blade, the spindle being movable through a cutting stroke and a return stroke, a motor for moving the spindle in a reciprocating fashion, and a reciprocating member interconnecting the motor with the spindle. The motor and the spindle define a drive force path from the motor to the spindle and passing through drive force bearing components of the reciprocating saw, and wherein at least part of the reciprocating member is in the drive force path. The reciprocating member is configured to counterbalance the spindle. A pivot body interconnects the spindle with the motor. A shock absorber is operatively positioned between the motor and the front end of the spindle, and is at least partially mounted within the spindle.

A reciprocating tool (e.g., a reciprocating saw) comprising a housing, a spindle mounted for reciprocating movement within the housing and having an end adapted to receive a saw blade, and a blade clamp mechanism connected to the spindle and adapted to attach a saw blade to the spindle. The blade clamp mechanism includes an actuating member mounted on the end of the spindle and capable of moving relative to the spindle between an engaged position and a disengaged position, and a locking member operatively associated with the actuating member and moveable relative to the spindle between a locked position that locks a saw blade to the spindle and an unlocked position that releases the saw blade. Movement of the actuating member from the disengaged position to the engaged position results in forced movement of the locking member from the unlocked position to the locked position, and movement of the actuating member from the engaged position to the disengaged position results in forced movement of the locking member from the locked position to the unlocked position.
