The present invention relates to a process of storing energy through the conversion of thermal energy and subsequent power generation by means of a gas turbine set with compressor, expander and power generator, with at least one and with a second low-temperature reservoir, and a high-temperature reservoir with bulk material as the heat storage medium, the electric energy is stored in the form of high-temperature heat above the turbine outlet temperature in a thermal reservoir, that during the power generation phase a compressed gas from the compressor is heated in a low-temperature reservoir to a temperature near the turbine outlet temperature and subsequently heated in a high-temperature reservoir with stored heat from electric power to a temperature level of at least the turbine inlet temperature, and that the ratio between the bed height in flow direction and the mean particle diameter of the bulk material in the high-temperature reservoir is at least 10.

An apparatus for cracking gases with a supply line () for a carbon-containing gas, by means of which the gas is capable of being supplied to a first heat exchanger () with a fill of a thermal storage mass, a first combustion chamber () which is arranged downstream in the direction of flow of the gas and which, in particular, has a supply device capable of being regulated for another oxygen-containing gas, by means of which a partial oxidation of the carbon-containing gas is carried out by the hypostoichiometric supply of oxygen, and a reactor () which is arranged downstream of the first combustion chamber () in the direction of flow of the gas which has a fill of a catalytically acting material for the catalytic splitting of impurities of the carbon-containing gas. Apparatus and method for cracking gases

A method and device for converting thermal energy from carbonaceous raw materials into mechanical work is provided. The device includes at least one first and one second device for storing and releasing thermal energy connected at least intermittently alternatingly in a turbine branch having a gas turbine connected downstream. The method includes the steps of: a) combusting a gas in a gas burner; b) passing the smoke gases arising in the gas burner through a device for storing thermal energy; and c) feeding the hot air released by at least one device into the gas turbine, wherein the gasification of the carbonaceous raw materials takes place in a gasifier in a first step and the product gas is fed into the gas burner connected downstream of the gasifier.

The invention relates to a process for the operation of a regenerator, hot and cold gas being repeatedly passed through a bulk material with a maximum particle diameter D which is received in the annular space between a substantially cylindrical hot grid and a cold grid surrounding the latter, and at least one discharge opening being provided in the bottom B of the annular space for discharging the bulk material . To increase the service life of the regenerator, it is proposed according to the invention that a predetermined amount of bulk material is discharged during or after the passing-through of hot gas, so that a compressive stress exerted by the bulk material on the hot grid and cold grid is reduced.
