A system and methods for power generation uses non-aqueous solvent. The method includes treating oil sands with a non-aqueous solvent to extract bitumen in an extraction process and separating the non-aqueous solvent from the bitumen in a solvent recovery process. The method also includes heating the non-aqueous solvent, expanding the non-aqueous solvent to generate power, and cooling the non-aqueous solvent. The method further includes recycling at least a portion of the non-aqueous solvent to the extraction process.

A hydrocarbon processing method, including processing a gaseous hydrocarbon stream to form a first production stream and a first injection stream; and compressing the first injection stream in a compressor placed at a selected location below a surface of a sea; wherein the location of the subsea compressor relative to a nearest inhabited area is determined based on a bubble plume trajectory of a model leak of the first injection stream from the compressor; and wherein the bubble plume trajectory is determined using one or more crossflow momentum parameters is disclosed herein. Also disclosed are hydrocarbon processing facilities having subsea compressors placed at such selected locations, processes for designing such hydrocarbon processing facilities, and a mathematical model useful in such methods, processes, and facilities.

Subsea sour gas and/or acid gas injection systems and methods

Hydrocarbon feedstreams are desulfurized using an alkali metal reagent, optionally in the presence of hydrogen. Improved control over reaction conditions can be achieved in part by controlling the particle size of the alkali metal salt and by using multiple desulfurization reactors. The processes herein allow a simple and effective method for removing the majority of coke formed in the alkali metal reagent reactions with the hydrocarbon feedstreams. This makes it cost effective to run such processes at higher severities (which result in higher coke production) thereby resulting in increased amounts of valuable converted hydrocarbon product yields. The process improvements herein may also be used to increase total throughput through a unit due to the ability to effectively manage higher coke content in the reaction products.

Alkali metal hydroprocessing of heavy oils with enhanced removal of coke products

The electrodesulfurization of heavy oil feedstreams is accomplished wherein a heavy oil feedstreams, along with hydrogen, is passed the cathode side of an electrochemical cell wherein the organically bound sulfur compounds in the heavy oil are reduced and the sulfur is released as hydrogen sulfide. The hydrogen sulfide can be fed directly into the anode side of the electrochemical cell to produce sulfur and hydrogen or it can be passed to an oxidation zone containing an aqueous solution of an oxidized metal salt.

A method for upgrading heavy oils by contacting the heavy oil with an inhibitor additive and then thermally treating the inhibitor additized heavy oil. The invention also relates to the upgraded product from the inhibitor enhanced thermal treatment process.
