Organometallic complexes having two phosphinimine ligands and at least one activatable ligand are catalyst components for olefin polymerization. Preferred polymerization systems are prepared by combining the organometallic complexes with an ionic activator and/or an alumoxane. Preferred catalyst components contain titanium, zirconium, or hafnium and are activated with an ionic activator to form catalysts for ethylene polymerization.

Bis-phosphinimine catalyst

New group 4 organometallic complexes are characterized by having a phosphinimine ligand and two or more cyclopentadienyl ligands. Certain of these complexes exhibit unusual behavior when examined by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques. Well defined crystals of the inventive complexes have been isolated and analyzed by x-ray crystallography. The complexes have also been found to be polymerization catalysts which are surprisingly more active than their simple metallocene analogs.

Hydrocarbyl phosphinimine/cyclopentadienyl complexes of group IV metals and preparation thereof

Organometallic complexes of titanium or zirconium having only three ligands (namely a cyclopentadienyl ligand, a phosphinimine ligand and an activatable ligand) are catalyst components for olefin polymerization. Preferred polymerization systems are prepared by combining the organometallic complexes with an ionic activator and/or an alumoxane. Preferred catalyst components contain titanium (III) and are used in ethylene polymerization.

Cyclopentadienyl/phosphinimine catalyst with one and only one activatable ligand

This invention is a solution process for the preparation of high molecular weight ethylene copolymers comprising contacting olefin monomers, with a catalyst system at a polymerization temperature at or above about 80&deg; C. with a catalyst system comprising an unbridged Group 4 metal compound having a monocyclopentadienyl ligand, a phosphinimine ligand and at least one uninegative, activation reactive ligand. The process can be practiced at a reaction temperature of at least 80&deg; C. to obtain high number average molecular weight polymer.

Polymerization catalyst having a phosphinimine ligand

Aluminum-phosphinimine complexes function as a component in a catalyst system for the (co)polymerization of ethylene. The inventive catalyst components form a highly productive polymerization system when activated with so-called &ldquo;ionic activators&rdquo;. The need for conventional transition metal catalyst metals (such as titanium, hafnium, zirconium or vanadium) is eliminated.

High temperature solution polymerization process with phosphinimine

A catalyst component which is especially useful in so-called 'slurry' or 'gas phase' olefin polymerizations and which comprises an organometallic complex of a group 4 metal (having a cyclopentadienyl-type ligand and a phosphinimine ligand) and a particulate support. The catalyst component forms an excellent catalyst system when combined with an activator such as an aluminoxane or a so-called 'substantially non-coordinating anion'. In a preferred embodiment the organometallic complex and the activator are both deposited on the particulate support.
