A material property determining system operable to determine properties of a conduit. The material property determining system includes a tool movable along a conduit and having at least one sensing device for sensing at least one property of the conduit. A processor is operable to process outputs of the at least one sensing device. Responsive to processing of the outputs by the processor, the processor correlates the processed outputs to determine the type of material of the conduit.

Method and apparatus for material identification of pipelines and other tubulars

A stress mapping system and method is operable to determine and map stresses along a conduit. The system includes a tool movable along a conduit and having at least one sensing device for sensing characteristics of the conduit, and a processor operable to process an output of the at least one sensing device. Responsive to processing of the output by the processor, the processor is operable to determine stresses at a surface of the conduit. Responsive to the processing of the output of the at least one sensing device, and responsive to a determination of a location or position of the tool along the conduit, the system generates a map of determined stresses along the conduit. The map of determined stresses provides a visual representation of the stresses determined at and along the surface of the conduit.

Method and apparatus for stress mapping of pipelines and other tubulars

A stress detecting system and method operable to detect stresses in a conduit or pipe includes a tool movable along a conduit or pipe and operable to generate a magnetic field. The tool is operable to sense magnetic Barkhausen noise within the conduit, such as within a wall of the conduit, in response to the tool generating the magnetic field. The stress detecting system is operable to detect a change in stress along the conduit responsive to an output of the tool. The system may detect changes in stress that are caused by geological changes or shifting or thermal changes at or near the conduit to determine changes in stress along the conduit and changes in stress along the conduit over time and during use of the conduit.

An inline tool tracking system for tracking an inline tool traveling along a pipe includes a detection and communication device operable to detect an inline tool as it passes generally near the device. The detection and communication device is operable to generate a detection output, which includes data indicative of the detection of the tool and a geographical location of the device. A control is operable to wirelessly receive the detection output and to process the detection output. The control generates a control output responsive to the processing, and the control output is indicative of the detection of the tool and the geographical location of the detection and communication device. The casing cutter disclosed herein is useful for severing downhole tubulars and comprises a body, slips, a cutting head, cutting blades, and actuators for operating the cutting head and cutting blades. The casing cutter can be anchored within casing wellbore with the slips to provide anchoring support during the cutting operation. Cutting is accomplished by rotatingly actuating the cutting head with an associated motor, and then radially extending the cutting blades away from the cutting head. The cutting blades are actuated by a hydraulic motor operatively coupled to the cutting blades by a series of gears.
