A computer implemented method, data processing system, and computer usable program code are provided for associating historical events with a user. A historical event is identified for association with the user. A determination is made as to whether the historical event has been certified by a trusted authority in response to identifying the historical event for association with the user. A historical object is created for the historical event if the historical event has been certified by the trusted authority and associated with the user.

A primary node and a secondary node each run the same J2EE compliant middleware stack comprising layers including a load balancer, a web server, a web application server, a message control server, a monitoring server, and a database control server. In the primary node, all layers are active. In the secondary node, part of the layers are active and part of the layers are in standby. A data replication partition shared between the primary node and the secondary node includes persistent resource data accessible to a selection of the layers of the primary node. A heartbeat controller monitors each node, including the middleware stack, and upon detection of a failure, controls transfer of the services provided by the primary node to the secondary node by transferring virtual IP addresses from the primary node to the secondary node, remounting the data replication partition for access by the secondary node, and activating the standby layers which require access to the data in the data replication partition.

Managing failover of J2EE compliant middleware in a high availability system

A system for routing different data types along different client-to-network connection paths. A connection utility, at the client, monitors a data type being transmitted. When a first data type is being transmitted, the connection utility selects a most optimal (or efficient) connection route for that data type. The connection utility then assigns a next connection route for a second data type with different characteristics and/or routing requirements than the first data type. Differences in routing path that are factored into the criteria for selection include: wired versus wireless, level of security, transfer protocol, connection cost, speed, etc.

A method, system and program product for utilization within a client that provides an optimal connection between the client and a network. The method, system and program product provides a graphical user interface for receiving user selection and connection requests and a connection utility for connecting the client system with a selected server of the network. The selected server and connection route is dynamically selected from a plurality of servers in response to the receipt of a connection request, based on a determination of a best route for completing the connection request. The client is provided with multiple connection media and the determination of the best route includes a selection of the connection medium to utilize for the connection. Also, a table of connection information is stored within the client and utilized in evaluating which connection route is optimal.

The user of the Internet processor is given the option of canceling the transmission or continuing with the transmission.

A method, system, and program for remote enterprise management of high availability systems are provided. Multiple high availability systems are networked in an enterprise and managed overall by a remote enterprise server. Within each high availability system, a cluster management controller monitors a status of a particular component of the high availability system and reacting to adjust the high availability system when the status indicates an error. In addition, with each high availability system, a monitoring controller detects when the cluster management controller reacts to the status of the particular component and detects a condition of a multiple components of the high availability system. The monitoring controller then reports the error and the condition of the components to the remote enterprise server. The remote enterprise server is enabled to manage each high availability system based on the reports received from each of the multiple high availability systems.

The Java Virtual Machine (JVM) can be decoupled from its Java-enabled browser. To maintain access to certain system resources (a 'privilege') by applets, each Java thread that enables the privilege will now create an entry that describes the privilege in a linked list based on the stack frame address. Sufficient information is stored in the link list for validation purposes. Further, system classes that require specific privileges will have them implicitly granted by an implicit privilege list.

A system for providing continuous connection between a client and a network during a session. The system comprises of a connection utility, which monitors a network session for an occurrence of a pre-defined event and/or condition. The system is particularly advantageous in scenarios where a session's connection is lost and the session has to be reconnected to the network. The system also finds applicability with several other types of events/conditions, including a connection break, a slow or congested connection or a change in the type of data being transmitted. When any one of the pre-defined events/conditions occur, the session is automatically routed from the present connection route to another connection route, and is completed on the other connection route. In order to complete the re-routing of the sessions, session information is cached on the client and the server. The session data is tagged with the original session ID. On the server, a special Client Key is stored for later retrieval, and on the client a special Server Key is stored. During the reconnect, the server uses its previously stored session data associated with the client key and previous session ID to regain a new session connection. The client uses its previously stored session data to regain its side of the connection and to pass the proper request over the wire to the server. This special &ldquo;handshake&rdquo; occurs at session reconnect time and allows the special session re-connection to occur. The re-routing of the session is completed with no noticeable loss in connection or session information. Thus, a substantially seamless switching of the session from the first connection route to the second connection route is implemented.

Method and apparatus to selectively define java virtual machine initialization properties using a browser graphical user interface

A method, system, and program that efficiently augments and enhances the functions of a network library with new functional elements. The method, system and program provide an extension utility, which contains a number of extended library services, such as security, Reliability, Availability, Serviceability, RAS, load balancing, snooping, and logging. The extended library services also include a general network monitoring function, by which a network connection is monitored, and the conditions reported back to the client. Also provided is a control utility, which places hooks related to one or more extended library services in the library processing code of the network protocol stack. The control utility-places the hooks within a call sequence based on a priority determination. Thus, hooks are placed within the call response sequence relative to the time the standard library services are to be performed. During response to a network call or other network process, the hooks operate to call back to and implement the particular extended library service(s). The corresponding extended library service is thus effectively added to the standard library services.

Extending functionality of network I/O APIS by using call-back mechanisms

The present invention provides a process in a data processing system for executing bytecodes. The bytecodes are contained in a JAVA archive file along with just in time compiling instructions. A call to just in time compile bytecodes is intercepted in which the bytecodes should not be JIT'ed. A means is provided within the JAVA archive file for software developers to mark as 'no JIT' some classes/methods in the field. Conversely, means is provided within the JAVA archive file for software developers to mark as 'JIT' some classes/methods in the field. Only the selected bytecodes are sent to the interpreter for processing rather than all of the classes.

Dynamic selection/definition of which class/methods should or should not be jit'ed using information stored in a jar file

The present invention provides a method and apparatus in a data processing system for optimizing running of bytecode. An application programming interface is called for compilation of bytecode. The bytecode just in time compiling is enabled or disabled using the application programming interface. Compiling the bytecode is optimized by the programmer before compiling using pre-compile keywords. Compiling the bytecode is optimized during compiling using dynamic application programming interface calls. Dynamic runtime APIs enable or disable the just in time compiling of objects based on compiling errors, execution performance and frequency of execution.

JIT/compiler Java language extensions to enable field performance and serviceability

A method in a data processing system for selecting a Java virtual machine for use with a browser. A user is prompted for an input, wherein input identifies a virtual machine to be used with the browser. A profile is altered for the browser to include an identification of the virtual machine identified by the input. The profile is used to select a virtual machine for use with the browser.
