A system that can analyze and modify a point map file corresponding to a lens design is described. The lens design is optimized to meet a patient's ophthalmic prescription. However, a digital surfacing machine may not be physically capable of producing on a lens blank a lens curvature required by the prescription and defined by the point map file. The system takes into account limitations of physical characteristics of the digital surfacing machine, such as the diameter and speed of movement of the cutting tool, and modifies the point map file so that the digital surfacing machine can produce the lens curvature on the lens blank.

Modifying a digital ophthalmic lens map to accommodate characteristics of a lens surfacing machine

An electronic lens processing system that tracks a lens design product used in the manufacture of a lens at a manufacturing facility is described. The system creates a work order for manufacturing the lens, where the manufacturing process can include machining a surface curvature on a lens blank by a lens grinding machine, and where the surface curvature is specified by a lens design. The system displays the work order on an electronic screen, and the work order includes the manufacturing facility's brand for the manufactured lens. A user can select the brand on the work ticket to obtain source information for the lens design used to manufacture the lens.

Optical lens processing system, such as a system for providing lens design source information to users

An electronic lens processing system receives a lens prescription and performs lens calculations to create a work ticket for manufacturing the lens. Information that the system used to create the work ticket, such as data files for lens materials and machine settings for controlling lens manufacturing equipment, are stored. The work ticket includes a form that specifies work ticket calculations and/or a graphic of the lens or lenses to be manufactured. The system displays the work ticket on an electronic screen, and a laboratory technician can select elements from the work ticket to receive supplemental information on those elements to aid in processing the lens or determining why a lens prescription is not manufacturable.

Automated optical lens processing system, such as a system for providing supplemental information to laboratory technicians

A system and method for ordering products, such as lens products from lens vendors, includes an intuitive interface. One or more displayable lists of options are provided to an operator, whereby selecting one item from the list decreases subsequent choices from other lists to only valid or available choices. Application tools interface with the system to permit data from external equipment to be input and associated with an order.
