A liquid dispensing closure for bottles and the like comprising a one-piece body having an end wall for covering the mouth of the bottle and a depending skirt for threading onto the neck of the bottle. A dispensing aperture in the end wall is surrounded by a spout that affords directional control of a stream of liquid being dispensed and reduced dribbling when dispensing is discontinued. A flap is hinged on the end wall to open and close the aperture with an associated depending plug that fits in the spout. The end wall, spout and hinged flap are arranged in a manner relative to one another that permits the flap to be advantageously molded in an upright position.

Liquid dispensing closure

A package, particularly suited for containing viscous foodstuff, comprising a wide-mouth generally rectangular container and a dispensing closure. The closure seals onto the container with a push-on motion and includes a resealable flip-up hinged lid. The container is originally sealed, after being filled, with a seal membrane applied to the container mouth. The closure is configured to permit the seal membrane to be conveniently removed from the container mouth while the closure remains assembled on the container.

Liquid dispensing cap

A dispensing closure with a hinged flap for conveniently opening and closing a dispensing aperture. The closure is a one-piece molded part having an integral living hinge. A mechanism for releasably locking the flap in a stay-open position and thereby resisting any tendency of the hinge to resiliently bias the flap towards a closed position is provided. The stay-open mechanism comprises a cooperating pair of surfaces molded into the flap and main body of the closure which are arranged to snap into and out of locking engagement when the flap is deliberately moved into or out of the open position.

Container

Screw on caps for bottles that have an anti back off feature formed on a hinged tab of the cap engaging detent teeth below the threads on the bottle. The hinge has a unique configuration that enables the tab to snap into and hold a gripping position while avoiding temporary distortion or creep. The detent teeth are particularly suited for use with blow molded bottles and are capable of restraining a cap within a small angle of a fully tightened position to avoid any significant back off and potential leakage. In one embodiment, the anti back off feature is provided in a child resistant cap while in another embodiment this feature is provided in a simpler continuous thread cap.

A plastic container closure has a skirt which is connected to a tamper-evidencing band by frangible bridges, all molded in a single unit. Where the closure is a cap for a container neck, there is at least one retaining means on the skirt and another on the band. The neck has two retaining means which cooperate with those on the cap to prevent upward movement of the cap without fracture of the bridges. To reduce the likelihood of unintentional fracture of the bridges, particularly during installation of the cap on the neck, plural ejection bumpers of extended arcuate lengths are located on the top edge of the band and or from the bottom edge of the skirt and the bridges are located between the bumpers. This snap lock ring functions to replace the conventional retaining means located centrally of the band. The invention is applicable to tamper-evidencing bands of closures and of push/pull closures of sports-type cap spouts.

The nozzle assembly comprises two pieces, they being: a nozzle cap; and, an integral nose bushing on which the nozzle cap is threadedly received. The integral nose bushing includes a body portion received and mounted in a body of a trigger sprayer and a bushing portion integral with the bushing portion. The bushing portion includes a generally cylindrical portion having a distal end and a proximal end with the proximal end having threads thereon and the distal end having a smooth outer cylindrical surface. The cylindrical portion has an annular slot therein defining an outer cylindrical flange and a central cylindrical portion. The central cylindrical portion has an outer end which extends outwardly of the outer cylindrical flange and which has an outer end having an annular wall defining therein a swirl cavity. The nose bushing has a passage therein communicating a waterway in the bushing portion with the annular slot in the cylindrical portion. The nozzle cap includes a generally cylindrical skirt formation extending rearwardly from a front wall of the cap having an orifice extending through the front wall. The generally cylindrical skirt formation includes an internal threaded portion which is adapted to mate with threads on the threaded portion of the nose bushing. The nozzle cap also has, on a rear surface of the front wall, an axially, rearwardly extending annular projection which surrounds the orifice and which is sized to be received in and seal with the walls of the swirl cavity.

The 90.degree. rotation nozzle assembly for a trigger sprayer comprises a nose bushing and a nozzle cap rotatably mounted on the nose bushing. The nose bushing has a front core with a front face and a generally cylindrical periphery. The generally cylindrical periphery has first, second and third, angularly spaced apart, longitudinally extending channels therein which open onto the front face of the core and extend rearwardly therefrom. The nozzle cap includes a front wall having a back side and a cylinder having an inner cylindrical wall surface and extending rearwardly from the back side of the front wall to a rear end of the cylinder. The front wall has a discharge orifice therethrough and the back side of the front wall has a swirl chamber formed therein in the area of and communicating with the discharge orifice. The back side also has first and second nondiametrically disposed radial slots therein that extend radially inwardly from the cylindrical wall surface to the swirl chamber and first and second nondiametrically disposed tangential slots therein that are angularly offset from the radial slots and that extend from the cylindrical wall surface tangentially to the swirl chamber.

The one-piece foamer nozzle comprises an inner cap portion, an outer barrel portion, and an internal wall inside the nozzle between the cap portion and the barrel portion. The internal wall has a central orifice therethrough. The cap portion has a cavity and structure in the cavity for receiving and mating with a nose bushing mounted to the front end of a trigger sprayer. The structure has passageways adapted to register with passageways on the nose bushing when the nozzle is rotated to a predetermined position on the nose bushing to direct liquid in a swirl whereby a conical spray exits the central orifice when the trigger sprayer is operated. The outer barrel portion has an inner, generally cylindrical, wall surface. The nozzle further has a short annular formation coaxial with the orifice and fixed to and extending outwardly from the internal wall around the orifice. The short annular formation has an axial extent from the internal wall sufficient to cause a generally cylindrical inner surface of the annular formation to interfere with at least a portion of the conical spray exiting from the orifice upon operation of the trigger sprayer, whereby some of the conically sprayed liquid engaging the inner surface of the short annular formation will be deflected into the path of the conical spray of liquid flowing toward the inner, generally cylindrical, wall surface of the outer barrel portion, thereby to enhance turbulence and mixing of air and liquid in the outer barrel portion to enhance the generation of foam.

A connecting assembly for mounting a fluid dispensing assembly onto a container comprises a cap for receiving and connecting the dispensing device onto the container and a cylindrical neck finish on top of the container for receiving the cap. The cap as well as the cylindrical neck finish have threads for mutual engagement. Furthermore, the cap has an orifice within its top wall for receiving the fluid dispensing device. Ratchet teeth inside the cap and corresponding ratchet teeth outside the cylindrical neck finish engage mutually to prevent the cap from being unlocked accidently. The ratchet teeth inside the cap have a rearwardly extending short back face and a forwardly extending long front face whereby the short back face and the long front face form an acute but almost rectangular angle. The short back face of one ratchet tooth extends of the bottom of a long front face of an adjacent ratchet tooth. The ratchet teeth inside the cap are uniformly distributed. The short back faces of any ratchet teeth have a slight slant, preferably 10 degree, off a radial line passing through the center of the cap and the slight slant is a trailing slant.

The nozzle cap, spring valve and body assembly for a trigger sprayer comprises a nozzle cap, a spring valve and a body. The nozzle cap is capable of being screwed upon the nose bushing portion of the body. The nozzle cap has an outlet orifice located in its front face and a sleeve extending rearwardly from a front wall thereof. The sleeve is threaded inside the rear portion thereof and has an internally contoured surface on a short annular formation that is located forwardly of the threads on the back side of the front wall to provide an inner annular surface and an outer annular surface rearward of an inner wall surface of the nozzle cap and forward of the internal threads inside the sleeve. The nose bushing portion of the body has a cavity in which is received the spring valve. The nozzle cap is screwed upon (threaded on) an externally threaded portion of the nose bushing portion of the body and over the spring valve and is selectively threadably positionable between three selective positions such that the positioning of the inner wall surface of the nozzle cap and the inner and outer annular surfaces of the short annular formation in the nozzle cap selectively cooperate with an outer annular periphery of a face disc of the spring valve having two angular spin-causing grooves in the annular periphery thereof and with the second inner annular surface of the nose bushing portion of the body thereby selectively to provide an OFF mode position for containment of liquid, a spray mode position to discharge liquid in a spray pattern from the outlet orifice, and a stream mode position to discharge liquid in a stream pattern from the outlet orifice.
