An internal combustion engine and a head gasket are provided. The internal combustion engine includes a block having at least one cylinder, a head joined to the block at a head interface, a cooling fluid circulation passage extending at least partially through the head and the block and having a first portion disposed in the head and a second portion disposed in the block, a head gasket having a plate extending across the head interface and separating the first portion of the cooling fluid circulation passage from the second portion of the cooling fluid circulation passage, and a plurality of orifices extending through the plate. The plurality of orifices is aligned with the cooling fluid circulation passage and is configured to control a flow of cooling fluid circulating between the first portion of the cooling fluid circulation passage and the second portion of the cooling fluid circulation passage.

Internal combustion engine and head gasket for internal combustion engine

A cylinder head for use with an internal combustion engine, the cylinder head including a body having a fire deck and defining a water jacket in fluid communication with a cooling system, a first runner defined by the body and open to the fire deck to at least partially form a first valve seat, a second runner defined by the body and open to the fire deck to at least partially form a second valve seat, and a channel defined by the in fluid communication with the water jacket and positioned between the first runner and the second runner. The channel, in turn, includes a first inlet through which a first flow enters the channel, a second inlet through which a second flow enters the channel, and where the first inlet and the second inlet are oriented such that the first flow and the second flow interact with one another to create a turbulent region within the channel.

Cylinder head with improved valve bridge cooling

An anti-cavitation engine block includes a first cylinder having a first cylinder centerline, a second cylinder having a second cylinder centerline, and a first inter-cylinder wall section located between the first cylinder and the second cylinder along an axis perpendicular to the first and second cylinder centerlines. A first plurality of anti-cavitation channels is formed in the first inter-cylinder wall section. A cylinder liner is inserted into the first cylinder and has an outer circumferential surface toward which the first plurality of anti-cavitation channels open. A water jacket extends at least partially around the outer circumferential surface of the cylinder liner. The first plurality of anti-cavitation channels increase local radial thicknesses of the water jacket to deter cavitation within the water jacket and adjacent the cylinder liner during engine operation.

Selective engine block channeling for enhanced cavitation protection

A cylinder head for use with an internal combustion engine, the cylinder head including a body having a fire deck and defining a water jacket in fluid communication with a cooling system. The cylinder head also includes a first runner defined by the body and open to the fire deck to at least partially form a first valve seat, a second runner defined by the body and open to the fire deck to at least partially form a second valve seat, and a channel defined by the body, where the cooling channel is in fluid communication with the water jacket and positioned between the first runner and the second runner, and where the cooling channel includes a flow diverter configured to produce a turbulent region proximate the fire deck.

A cooling jacket is formed at least in part within the cylinder head mounted on an engine block defining one or more piston cylinders and one or more intake and exhaust ports in communication with each piston cylinder. The cooling jacket includes a first passageway, a second passageway and a turbulence chamber. The first passageway extends from a first flow passage and intersects the turbulence chamber at a first angular position, and the second passageway extends from a second flow passage and intersects the turbulence chamber at a second angular position different from the first angular position. A swirling action is imparted to fluid media passing through the turbulence chamber.

Engine cooling system

Disclosed is an EGR mixer for mixing a fresh air flow and an EGR flow. The EGR mixer comprises an air duct configured to allow a fresh air flow to flow therethrough, and comprises an EGR duct configured to allow an EGR flow to flow therethrough. The EGR mixer comprises a mixing duct positioned downstream of the air duct and the EGR duct. The EGR mixer comprises a supplemental duct fluidly connecting the EGR duct to a second mixing section of the mixing duct. The EGR mixer is configured to mix the fresh air flow and the EGR flow into a mixed flow.

Exhaust gas recirculation mixer

Controlling fuel injectors to create varying injection rates and injection rate shapes typically involves using multiple control valves to control fuel pressure and check valve opening pressure independently. The fuel injector of this application uses a single control valve positioned between a fuel supply passage and a tip supply passage. The control valve has at least three positions. In a second position allowing a first maximum fuel injection rate and allowing a second maximum fuel injection rate in a third position.
