A system comprising: a radar sensor configured to produce a set of radar readings distributed amongst a plurality of distance bins; an image projection module configured to project at least some of the radar readings onto an image comprising a 2D Cartesian grid of pixels based on the respective azimuth angles and elevations, wherein for each pixel where a radar reading is present the pixel comprises a respective value of at least one non-binary channel comprising at least one of measured property of the radar reading; and a machine learning model for image recognition, arranged to receive the image and to detect an object therein, wherein the machine learning model is configured to perform the detection based on at the values of the at least one non-binary channel for each pixel.

Manipulation of radar readings

A method, apparatus, and system for detecting presence of an object of low radar cross section RCS () in an environment () are provided. Radar detection at one or more radar frequencies greater than 2 GHz is used to determine a steady state response profile () of the environment (). The steady state response profile () comprises at least one indication of one or more reflected signals () from an object of high RCS in the environment (). Radar detection at the one or more radar frequencies is then used to determine a test response profile () of the environment (). The test response profile () is compared with the steady state response profile () to determine a presence of a, object of low RCS () in the environment by identifying at least partial absence of at least one of the reflected signals () in the test response profile ().

Indirect radar detection

A method and apparatus for a multicarrier receiver circuit with guard interval size detection described. The invention allows the FFT size and guard interval size to be detected quickly even in the presence of relatively noisy input signals. The method is robust in noise environments, and also sufficiently robust to process signals having severe multipath and/or co-channel interference. Moreover, the method is of low complexity, and can be implemented in a VLSI circuit.

Method and apparatus for a multicarrier receiver circuit with guard interval size detection

A receiver circuit is for processing a received signal which includes at least a first portion and a second portion which repeats the content of the first portion after a repeat interval. For example, the receiver may be for DVB-T signals using COFDM. In order to ensure that the estimated symbol start position is accurate, the receiver calculates two correlation values, namely an early correlation and a late correlation. The early correlation is measured between samples ahead of an assumed first portion start position and ahead of an assumed second portion start position, and the late correlation is measured between samples behind an assumed first portion end position and behind an assumed second portion end position. When the assumed start and end positions are accurate, the early and late correlations are equal, and so the assumed start and end positions are controlled to equalize the early correlation and the late correlation.

Receiver circuit

A method and apparatus for a multicarrier receiver circuit with guard interval size detection is described. The invention allows the FFT size and guard interval size to be detected quickly, even in the presence of relatively noisy input signals. The method is robust in noisy environments, and also sufficiently robust to process signals having severe multipath and/or co-channel interference. Moreover, the method is of low complexity, and can be implemented in a VLSI circuit.

A receiver circuit is for processing a received signal which includes at least a first portion and a second portion which repeats the content of the first portion after a repeat interval. For example, the receiver may be for DVB-T signals using COFDM. Two correlation values are measured. The first is between the first portion of the received signal, delayed by the repeat interval plus a difference interval, and the second portion. The second is between the first portion of the received signal, delayed by the repeat interval minus a difference interval, and the second portion. Any difference between the correlation values represents a difference between the receiver sampling rate, and the required sampling rate, and can be used to adjust the receiver sampling rate.

The network security of a radio local loop system is highly desirable to avoid fraudulent use of the network by unauthorised users with appropriate subscriber equipment. For fixed subscribers, the propagation delay between base station and subscriber unit will also remain fixed and, provided this is measured with sufficient accuracy, the distance from the subscriber to the base station can be determined. This can be used as an aid to the authentication of a subscriber. Other signal characteristics which are indicative of the physical location of a purported subscriber can be used, such as directional information. In a system in which propagation delay has to be monitored anyway, for other purposes, such as orthogonal CDMA code synchronisation, or for a TDM system, added security can be obtained without great extra cost.

Subscriber authentication for radio local loop system

Apparatus for a radio local loop for a telecommunications system, such as a base station (1) or a subscriber station (2), comprises a first unit (4, 13), which includes call processing and speech transcoding/encryption apparatus (8, 17), and which can be housed in a friendly environment, such as within a telephone exchange or within a subscriber's premises, and a comparatively rugged second unit (3, 14) which includes a modem (11, 22) and radio transceiver (12, 23), and which can be housed, in the case of a base station, at a site remote from the exchange, but central for the subscribers which it is to serve, and in the case of a subscriber station on the outside of the subscriber's premises. The first and second units are linked by a base-band link (5, 15).
