A method, system, and computer-readable storage medium are disclosed for minimizing tessellation of surfaces. A first plurality of polygons may be generated, wherein the first plurality of polygons are adjacent to a plurality of exterior curves of a surface. Each of the first plurality of polygons comprises at least one outside edge approximating a portion of one of the exterior curves within a first flatness tolerance. A second plurality of polygons may be generated, wherein the second plurality of polygons are on the interior of the surface. Each of the second plurality of polygons comprises a plurality of inside edges approximating portions of interior curves of the surface within a second flatness tolerance. The first flatness tolerance may be smaller than the second flatness tolerance.

Minimizing tessellation of surfaces

A method, system, and computer-readable storage medium are disclosed for minimizing tessellation of surfaces. A first plurality of polygons may be generated, wherein the first plurality of polygons are adjacent to a plurality of boundaries of a surface. Each of the first plurality of polygons comprises at least one outside edge approximating a straight line within a first flatness tolerance. A second plurality of polygons may be generated, wherein the second plurality of polygons are on the interior of the surface. Each of the second plurality of polygons comprises a plurality of inside edges approximating the straight line within a second flatness tolerance. The first flatness tolerance may be smaller than the second flatness tolerance.

Methods, program products and systems for automatically trapping drop shadows. For at least one segment incident to an atomic region which includes a drop shadow, and for each side of the segment, determining a first flattened color of the side's incident atomic region, and if the atomic region includes a drop shadow, additionally determining a second flattened color omitting the color of the drop shadow. An effective neutral density from the side's first flattened color is determined and, if the side has a second flattened color, the side's second flattened color. The two atomic regions incident to the segment are trapped based upon the effective neutral densities for the respective sides.

Automatic trapping of drop shadows

Methods and-apparatus implementing a technique for forming a trap polygon which does not interfere with the print quality of other trap polygons or objects. Edges in close proximity to a color transition edge ('CTE') are checked for potential interference. A trap polygon is formed for the CTE that avoids any interfering edges or trap polygons for those edges. The technique can be applied to form a trap polygon for each edge in a page to be printed. In general, in one aspect, forming a trap polygon for trapping a color transition edge, where the trap polygon has an associated trap color determined by colors defining the color transition edge, includes: identifying one or more potentially interfering edges which intersect a keep away zone defined by the color transition edge; screening the potentially interfering edges to identify interfering edges which are part of an object which is of a significantly different color than the trap color; and forming a trap polygon for trapping the color transition edge including shaping the trap polygon to avoid overlapping objects and any trap polygons corresponding to any interfering edges.

Trap shaping

A method and apparatus of forming a trap polygon for trapping a color transition edge. The method includes identifying an interfering edge which intersects a keep away zone defined by the color transition edge, calculating a line on which traps the color transition edge and the interfering edge would optimally abut one another and shaping a trap polygon using the line.

Method and apparatus for rasterizing a resolution-independent page description for printing. A peeker (gap between two visible edges in vector representation that is narrower than a printer pixel) is identified between a first visible edge and a second visible edge, and a color adjustment is made to at least one of the edges. In one embodiment, a side of the second visible edge facing a side of the first visible edge is identified. The color of the identified side of the first visible edge is changed based on the color of the identified side of the second visible edge. The color adjustment is advantageous in connection with methods of trapping.
