A method and system for providing a user of a wireless communication device (WCD) with vending service. The WCD may present the user with data indicating items available for purchase from a vendor. The WCD may then receive the user's directive to order an item from the vendor. In response, the WCD may obtain data stored at a transponder in proximity to the WCD that indicates a location of the WCD. In one example, the transponder may be at a fixed location, such as by being affixed to a fixed object at a venue (e.g., a stadium seat), in which case the stored data may indicate the fixed location. The WCD may then send an order for the item and the obtained data to the vendor. In turn, the vendor may use the data to determine a location of the WCD and then deliver the item to the determined location.

A location validation system comprising a communication interface configured to receive an asserted location of a wireless communication device and a processing system configured to determine a trusted location of the wireless communication device, receive the asserted location from the communication interface, compare the asserted location to the trusted location, and generate a notification if the asserted location differs from the trusted location.

A wireless communication system generates operating information indicating if a monitoring wireless communication device is in active mode or in idle mode for a wireless data service. The wireless system receives location information that indicates geographic locations of a monitored wireless communication device for delivery to the monitoring wireless communication device. The system stores the location information if the monitoring wireless communication device is in idle mode. The system wirelessly transfers the location information to the monitoring wireless communication device if the monitoring wireless communication device is in active mode. If the monitoring wireless communication device transitions from idle mode to active mode and has stored location information, the system generates summary location data for the monitored wireless communication device based on the stored location information and wirelessly transfers the summary location data to the monitoring wireless communication device.

Selective delivery of presence messages for wireless communication devices

Media and systems are provided for limiting bandwidth consumption in a network environment by presenting customized browser-presentable resources. A request for a base universal resource locator (URL), followed by a request for a specific resource, is received. An optimized URL for the request is generated. When a predetermined number of requests for the specific component resource are received during the course of accessing the base URL, subsequent user requests for the base URL are redirected to the optimized URL. Thus, only the specific resources are presented for display. Requests to return to the base URL can result in discontinuing redirection. Returning to the base URL and accessing additional resources can modify the enhanced URL or redirect requests for the base URL to a difference component resource. Network bandwidth usage is enhanced by recognizing repetitive user requests.

Usage-based content filtering for bandwidth optimization

A method, system, and medium are provided for consolidating subscriber information from one or more data stored located within a mobile telecommunications network. The subscriber information may include, for example, a subscriber's service attributes or identifying information. As each data store may use a different protocol to communicate with the network, the system has the capability to identify the protocol used by each data store to allow for communication between each data store and the network. In addition, as each data store may store the subscriber information in a different format, the system identifies the schema used by each data store so that the subscriber information may be consolidated into a single schema to generate a unified subscriber profile, thus providing for efficient and effective customer service by a service provider.

What is disclosed is a method for communicating a presence message from a presence server to a monitoring wireless communication device, wherein the presence message indicates a location-oriented status of a monitored wireless communication device. The method includes receiving the presence message from the presence server and determining if the monitoring wireless communication device is in an active mode. If the monitoring wireless communication device is in the active mode, the method includes transferring the presence message for delivery to the monitoring wireless communication device. If the monitoring wireless communication device is not in the active mode, the method includes applying filtering characteristics to the presence message, creating summary data of the presence message, and transferring the summary data of the presence message for delivery to the monitoring wireless communication device once the monitoring wireless communication device enters the active mode.

A plurality of public safety answering points (PSAPs) are accessible via a voice-over-packet (VoP) network. A wireless access point of the VoP network is provisioned with a PSAP identifier and/or access point identifier to facilitate the routing of emergency services calls from the wireless access point to the appropriate PSAP. When a mobile node transmits a message to originate a call, the wireless access point parses the message to determine whether the mobile node is requesting an emergency services call. If an emergency call is being requested, the wireless access point inserts the PSAP identifier and/or access point identifier with which it has been provisioned into the message and forwards the modified message to a proxy server. The proxy server receives the modified message and routes the call to the appropriate PSAP, based on the PSAP identifier and/or access point identifier contained therein.

Embodiments of the invention provide ways to locally store and deliver voicemail messages on personal communication devices. An illustrative method includes initiating a call to a recipient's device, receiving an indication the call cannot be established, prompting the user to leave a voicemail, storing the voicemail locally on the communications device, and sending the voicemail to the recipient's device.

Methods, media and systems are provided for generating a dynamic web portal in a wireless network, and the portal is based on personal usage. An initialized portal contains no web content. Systems include one or more network elements configured to monitor requests for resource components, to generate web portals, and to dynamically update the portals based on the requests for resource components. Data structures embodied on a computer-readable media are included for storing numerical data regarding the requests and for storing a plurality of portals. The dynamic web portal is updated to contain component resources from visited web pages, each having a respective universal resource locator (URL) or portion of code with which it is associated. Requests for resources are monitored and added to a web portal when a specified threshold is surpassed so that an updated web portal can be presented.

Methods and systems are described for providing a presence service that is useful for mobile telecommunications devices. A plurality of outgoing presence updates are sent to a presence client. The system monitors the level of network traffic and determines whether the client is in a region of high network load, and if so, the system throttles the outgoing presence updates during the condition of high network load. The level of throttling may depend at least in part on the amount of time that has elapsed since the presence client began a presence session, and/or the amount of time that has elapsed since an incoming presence update was received from the presence client. In determining the latter amount of elapsed time, the system may consider only the amount of time elapsed since an incoming non-automatic presence update was received from the presence client.

What is disclosed is a method of operating a wireless communication network to authenticate a geographic location of a wireless communication device. The method includes transferring an authentication key for delivery to a service node, obtaining the geographic location of the wireless communication device, and authenticating the geographic location to create authenticated location information for the wireless communication device. The method also includes wirelessly transferring the authenticated location information to the wireless communication device, wirelessly receiving the authenticated location information from the wireless communication device for delivery to the service node, and transferring the authenticated location information for delivery to the service node, wherein the service node processes authenticated location information and the authentication key to identify the geographic location of the wireless communication device.

Methods, systems, and media are provided for interfacing components in a wireless telecommunications network. An interface allows for the efficient transfer of data that facilitates billing and operations functions. This data is transferred from proxy gateways to application servers to servers that provide billing functions and operations, administration, and management (OAM) functions. The interface enables the transmission by communicating a mobile switching center code, a proxy identifier, a traffic restriction flag, and a packet data unit type. By aggregating this information at the application server into a useful form for devices used in billing and operations, information technology (IT) overhead for billing and operations systems support is reduced. Also lowered is the congestion present on the network, as fewer links are necessary between servers and proxies. The proxy gateway is situated between a circuit-switched network providing access services and a packet-switched network providing connectivity services. The gateway also is coupled to an application server on the packet-switched network.

Billing and OAM function integration in a mixed-switching environment

A method is provided for monitoring multicasting traffic in an internetwork between a multicasting source in a first domain and a multicasting destination in a second domain. The multicasting source offers connections to a predetermined multicast stream according to predetermined multicast group information. The multicasting destination sends a join message to a router within the internetwork in order to initiate routing of the predetermined multicast stream to the multicasting destination. A notification of the joining is sent from the router to a ledger application, the notification including identifying information of the multicasting destination and the multicasting source. The multicasting source transmitting datagrams of the predetermined multicast stream to the multicasting destination via the router. The ledger application receives and logs the notification as a transaction event. The transaction events are aggregated in response to the first domain of the multicasting source and in response to the second domain of the multicasting destination, thereby allowing reimbursement of costs between domains for transporting the multicasting traffic.

A presence enabled media host device is provided for accessing presence information associated with a number of communication endpoints and requesting the initiation of a communication session with at least one of the communication endpoints. The presence enabled media host device may access presence information, which includes information relating to the availability of a number of first communication endpoints. The presence enabled media host device may also receive a command requesting establishment of a communication session between at least one of the first communication endpoints and one or more second communication endpoints. The presence enabled media host device may then communicate a request for the communication session to a proxy server.
