A golf ball is provided that includes at least two layers of material disposed between a spherical core and a cover layer, wherein the elastic modulus of each is within three orders of magnitude of each adjacent layer or core. The spherical core can be a hollow metal core. This results in a golf ball that is legal for play and capable of drive distances essentially equivalent to those of currently available high performance golf balls, but also provides a golf ball that has less hook and slice during play.

Modulus transition layers for stiff core golf balls

A golf ball is provided that has a spherical core exhibiting a stiffness from 400 MPa to 200 GPa. The stiffness of the core may be controlled by adjusting the materials of construction and the ratio of the materials. This results in a golf ball that is legal for play and capable of drive distances essentially equivalent to those of currently-available high performance golf balls, but also provides a golf ball that has less hook and slice during play.

Stiff core golf ball and methods of making same

Process for producing nanomaterials such as graphenes, graphene composites, magnesium oxide, magnesium hydroxides and other nanomaterials by high heat vaporization and rapid cooling. In some of the preferred embodiments, the high heat is produced by an oxidation-reduction reaction of carbon dioxide and magnesium as the primary reactants, although additional materials such as reaction catalysts, control agents, or composite materials can be included in the reaction, if desired. The reaction also produces nanomaterials from a variety of other input materials, and by varying the process parameters, the type and morphology of the carbon nanoproducts and other nanoproducts can be controlled. The reaction products include novel nanocrystals of MgO (percilase) and MgAlO(spinels) as well as composites of these nanocrystals with multiple layers of graphene deposited on or intercalated with them.

Nanomaterials and process for making the same

This invention provides methods and devices for manufacturing moldable materials including various types of natural and synthetic clays, edible materials such as cookie dough, and modeling compound by forming a moldable billet through various techniques, and reducing the cross section of said moldable billet such that features in the moldable billet appear in a similar arrangement in the resulting extruded product.

A precipitation gauge for measuring liquid and frozen precipitation includes a support structure having at least one light sensor, or pair of electrodes, and at least one light source disposed thereon so that the light sensor may receive light that is emitted from the light source. The light sensor or light sensors and the light source or light sources generally extend a substantial height of the support structure. The light sensor or light sensors generate an output signal in response to the amount of light received from the light source. A microprocessor receives the output signal or output signals from the light sensor or light sensors and determines whether precipitation is present between the light sensor or light sensors and the light source or light sources. Based on the output signal or output signals, the microprocessor determines and displays the level of precipitation. The microprocessor may also determine the density of frozen precipitation. A heating element is disposed on the support structure to melt frozen precipitation. The microprocessor determines the density of the frozen precipitation from the amount of frozen precipitation and the amount of liquid that results from melting the frozen precipitation. Alternatively, the microprocessor determines the density of frozen precipitation from the amount of frozen precipitation and the weight of the frozen precipitation.
