A capacitor assembly comprising a casing, an anode pack housed within the casing and comprising two or more anode pellets of anode active material electrically connected to each other by a bridge, and a cathode comprised of cathode current collectors including major faces with cathode active material provided thereupon is described. The bridge, which spans between sidewalls of the anode pellets, helps maintain them in a parallel alignment. The bridge is also a convenient location to connect the feedthrough wire that exits the casing through a glass-to-metal seal. The cathode current collectors are disposed between adjacent anode pellets and are electrically connected to each other and to the casing. A feedthrough wire electrically connected to the anode pack extends outside the casing in electrical isolation there from. An electrolyte is provided to activate the anode and the cathode.

Wet tantalum capacitor with multiple anode connections

An anode/separator assembly for a capacitor is described. The capacitor includes a pellet of anode active material having opposed first and second major faces extending to a surrounding side wall and a separator enveloping the pellet. The separator is formed of a first sheet of separator material including a first central region contiguous with the first major face wall of the anode pellet and a first perimeter region folded in contact with the surrounding side wall of the anode pellet, and a second sheet of separator material including a second central region contiguous with the second major face wall of the anode pellet and a second perimeter region overlapping a portion of the first perimeter region of the first separator sheet. The first and second sheets of separator material are then sealed to each other at a seam formed at the overlap between them using the anode pellet surrounding sidewall as a backing surface for a heat sealing device.

Flat sealing of anode/separator assembly for use in capacitors

A capacitor a casing of first and second casing members, a feedthrough electrically insulated from the casing and extending there from, first and second anodes electrically connected to each other within the casing, a cathode, and an electrolyte is described. The first anode is electrically connected in parallel to the second anode by a first anode wire having opposite ends contacting the respective first and second anodes. A feedthrough wire extending outside the casing and electrically isolated there from is electrically connected to the first anode wire intermediate the first and second anodes. The cathode is disposed between the first and second anodes.

Dual anode capacitor with internally connected anodes

Deposition of a metal-containing reagent solution or suspension onto a conductive substrate by various pad-printing techniques is described. The result in a pseudocapacitive oxide coating, nitride coating, carbon nitride coating, or carbide coating having an acceptable surface area for incorporation into an electrolytic capacitor, such as one have a tantalum anode.

Use of poly(alkylene) carbonates in the manufacture of valve metal anodes for electrolytic capacitors

Use of pad printing in the manufacture of capacitors

An enclosure for an electrical energy storage device such as a wet tantalum electrolytic capacitor or an electrochemical cell such as a lithium/silver vanadium oxide cell is described. The enclosure comprises two metallic casing components or portions. The first is a drawn member having a planar face wall supporting a surrounding sidewall and is shaped to nest the anode, cathode and intermediate separator components. The surrounding sidewall has an annular flange at its outer periphery. A mating cover is a stamped planar piece of similar material whose periphery fits inside the annular flange or rim as a complementary piece.

Flat back case for an electrolytic capacitor

New designs that provide two anodes and their associated feedthroughs incorporated into one capacitor are described. The feedthrough wires can be in their own glass-to-metal seal or, they can be combined into one glass-to-metal seal as long as they are electrically insulated from each other. One embodiment has the anode feedthroughs left unconnected, while in other embodiments; they are joined externally of the capacitor casing. Several interconnect designs are described.

Dual anode capacitor interconnect design

The present invention is directed to the realization that the dimensions and basis weight of an electrode active admixture such as a transition metal oxide, and particularly silver vanadium oxide, formed into an electrode structure from an admixture paste subjected to a calendering process are influenced by the calender direction. To obtain electrode structures of a desired low basis weight requires a secondary calendering step performed in a direction reverse or orthogonal to that used to form the initial sheet tape. Orthogonal or reverse feed of the electrode active admixture provides for fibrillation of the fluoro-polymeric binder in other than the initial direction. This lets the binder spread in directions transverse to the initial direction to form the low basis weight electrode active structure.
