A compositor receives, from each of a plurality of originating devices, compressed and/or encrypted image data portions of a frame of image data, together with portion metadata for each of the compressed and/or encrypted image data portions. Frame metadata for the frame of image data. The compositor then composites the image data portions without decompressing and/or decrypting them, based on the portion and frame metadata, by generating composited frame metadata for the composited image frame and amending the portion metadata for each of the compressed and/or encrypted image data portions to indicate a location of the compressed and/or encrypted image data portions in the composited image frame. The compressed and/or encrypted image data portions, the composited frame metadata and the amended portion metadata are then transmitted by the compositor to a display control device.

Method of managing display data

A method involves receiving, at a host device, information indicative of available bandwidth on a variable bandwidth connection between the host device and a display control device, which may be based on monitoring a signal level on the connection, a link radio modulation mode, traffic on the connection, or the data rate of any return signals from the display control device. The method includes setting one or more parameters used to generate the display data that change compressibility of the display data based on the information, where compressibility of the display data affects efficiency of compression of the display data, and where the setting of the parameters may be based on a compression algorithm used when compressing the display data. The method includes generating the display data using the one or more parameters, compressing the display data, and transmitting the display data to the display control device.

Compression of display data

A method for compositing display data at a remote device to form an image for display involves the remote device receiving (S) elements of the image, where the image includes display data forming a background layer, display elements forming a foreground layers and an overlay data layer. The remote device receives (S) sensor information indicating one or more of a position of an eye of a viewer, a direction of focus of the eye of the viewer, and/or a position of a display. It then determines (S) movement of a line of sight between the eye of the viewer and the display, determines an estimate of a future position of the line of sight at a future time based on the determined movement of the line of sight, and determines (S) an adjustment to be made to the image based on the future position of the line of sight. The display elements of the foreground layer are composited (S) relative to the display data of the background layer according to the determined adjustment and the composited image is forwarded (S) for display at the future time.

Compositing an image for display

A method of controlling a docking station () to wake a mobile device () from a sleep mode, the mobile device () having a data module that is powered off in sleep mode and is capable of transferring data to/from the docking station () over a data connection. The mobile device () also includes at least one of a power module () that is powered on in sleep mode and that is capable of receiving power over a power transfer connection () from a power source () in the docking station () and a sort-range wireless communication module () that is powered on in sleep mode and that is capable of transferring data over a short-range wireless connection (). The method involves receiving, by the docking station () over a Local Area Network, LAN connection, a wake-up message destined for the mobile device (), generating, by the docking station (), in response to receiving the wake-up message, a wake-up control signal for transmittal over the power transfer connection () or over the sort-range wireless connection () to the mobile device (), and transmitting the wake-up control signal, from the docking station (), over the power transfer connection () or over the sort-range wireless connection () to the mobile device ().

Remote wake-up of mobile devices

A method of controlling a wireless docking station, which has one or more peripheral devices connected thereto, which are controllable from a mobile device when the mobile device is docked with the wireless docking station. The method involves receiving (S) a sensing signal indicating that a user is proximate the peripheral device(s) and detecting (S) that a mobile device is within a predetermined range of the wireless docking station. An identification of the mobile device is determined and the user is requested (S) to confirm that the user wants to dock the mobile device having the identification with the wireless docking station. When a confirmation signal (S) is received, an authentication of the mobile device having the identification is permitted to be performed whereby the mobile device having the identification is docked (S) with the wireless docking station if the authentication is successful.

Wireless docking

An apparatus for co-ordinating display data sent to a display device includes two or more panels or sub-displays together forming a single display screen for displaying at least one complete image. Each display panel has a display input for receiving display data of part of the complete image from a corresponding display output of a display control device. The display control device receives, from a host device, packets of display data destined for one of the display panels. The display control device directs the packets to one or more processors in the display control device for processing and storing the display data in a respective buffer according to which respective display panel the display data is destined for. The processed display data is output from the buffers at a synchronized time to the display output corresponding to the respective display panel for which the display data is destined.
