A roadside infrastructure system configured to generate and broadcast basic safety message data to augment vehicle safety applications. In one example, a roadside module of the system includes a camera, video analytics to process images from the camera to detect vehicles, a BSM generator that generates a BSM for each detected vehicle, and an antenna for broadcasting the BSM. In another example, the roadside module is configured to detect BSM data generated by equipped vehicles, to determine whether any detected vehicles are equipped vehicles generating their own BSM data, and to generate a BSM only for unequipped detected vehicles.

Method and apparatus for generating infrastructure-based basic safety message data

A method for reading a license plate disposed on a vehicle includes determining whether a license plate image is required, automatically processing the license plate image in response to determining that the license plate image is required, providing at least one verified image, and determining whether to manually read the license plate image by matching the license plate image with the at least one verified image.

System and method for reading license plates

A system and method for detecting incidents along a roadway are provided. A plurality of readers are spaced at intervals along a roadway for reading uniquely identified data from each of a plurality of vehicles. These readings are correlated to obtain information on each of the vehicles and to determine the number of vehicles potentially affected by incidents along the roadway. Finally, the number of each of the vehicles potentially affected by incidents is compared to a sample threshold in order to determine if a traffic incident has occurred.

A method for determining a vehicle trip on a roadway includes providing a plurality of vehicle detections from a plurality of gateways, determining a maximum travel time between corresponding pairs of the plurality of gateways, correlating corresponding pairs of the plurality of vehicle detections by determining that a travel time between each of the gateways of each of the corresponding pairs of detections is less than a corresponding maximum travel time, determining a plurality of chainable detections, and determining the boundaries of the trip.

Vehicle trip determination system and method

The present invention relates to a method and device for providing a graphical user interface between an individual soldier and a computer-based warfare system worn by him. The graphical user interface is made up of icon-based visual control and information screens that the soldier views on a display and manipulates with a computer mouse-like device. The interface allows the individual soldier to: view information gathered by a variety of sources, including sensor components, radios, and satellites; process information using a variety of input devices and software utilities; and, act on that information using weapons, communications devices, and the like. The graphical user interface organizes information into three distinct 'combat task' groups and provides the soldier with easily understood pictorial icons to select. By tailoring the information to a particular situation, the graphical user interface allows the soldier to view critical data without being overwhelmed by too much information.
