A system and method for managing handoff in software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) in aero or mobility situations, where terminal is capable of switching across multiple high throughput satellite (HTS), low-latency wireless spot beams and cell. The system receives at least one packet for upstream/downstream transmission over communication network. The system classifies packets based on data types associated with packets and assigns wireless path associated with first network transport modem for upstream/downstream transmission of packets classified as interactive traffic data type. Furthermore, system assigns satellite path associated with second network transport modem for upstream/downstream transmission of packets classified as bulk traffic data type. Further, system estimates available capacity for upstream/downstream transmission of packets associated with first and/or second network transport modem. Furthermore, system adjusts rate limited priority queue for continuity of TCP connection corresponding to packets, responsive to change in network conditions of communication network during the upstream/downstream transmission.

Mobility multi-transport software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN)

A content protection system for satellite-based content delivery is provided, including a satellite content receiver. The satellite content receiver may include one or more processors and a non-transitory processor readable medium, and be in communication with a satellite antenna. The satellite content receiver may receive a first portion of streaming media content, transmitted by a content security host system using multicast communication. The first portion of the streaming media content may be stored, and later accessed in response to a user command. A second portion of the streaming media content including data missing from the first portion of the streaming media content may be identified. The second portion may be requested from the content security host system and received by the satellite content receiver. The first and second portions of the streaming media content may be combined to reconstruct the streaming media content, which may then be output.

Secure satellite-based content preloading

A system and method for traffic shaping of a hybrid network using Internet Protocol (IP) including a first transport and a second transport, the method including: establishing an on-course line to monitor usage of the first transport over a usage cycle, wherein the on-course line defines a usage-limit of the first transport for a given instant within the usage cycle; tracking a current usage of the first transport over the usage cycle; determining a preference between the first transport and the second transport based on a property of a traffic to be transported by the hybrid network; and adjusting the preference to shift the traffic to the second transport as a distance of the current usage from the on-course line decreases for a current instant, wherein the first transport has a lower latency than a latency of the second transport.

Traffic shaping for hybrid satellite/terrestrial wide area networks

A system and method for managing network communication in an asymmetric network environment. The system includes a gateway. The gateway receives a plurality of packets for transmission over first communication network. The plurality of packets are received via primary network path. The gateway dynamically evaluates the plurality of packets. The gateway classifies the plurality of packets into a latency sensitive packet and a latency agnostic packet. The gateway determines network capacity of the primary network path and a secondary network path. The gateway splits the latency sensitive packet and the latency agnostic packet between the primary network path and the secondary network path. The gateway selects the primary network path for transmitting the latency sensitive packet. The gateway selects the secondary network path for transmitting the latency agnostic packet over downstream transmission. Furthermore, the gateway transmits the latency sensitive packet and the latency agnostic packet to a client device.

Network system for enhanced communication using multiple paths

A network communication system which provides cost effective support for two or more WAN transports from a single SD-WAN site. The network communication system, may at times by default, monitor a higher-cost WAN for only basic connectivity to reduce monitoring costs of the transport. Where an application is properly configured, the system may override the default to monitor a higher-cost WAN for acceptable performance (i.e., monitored for connectivity, packet loss, latency, jitter & capacity) even when that WAN is not selected as active transport.

Cost-effective control of multiple transports of an SD-WAN gateway

A system and method for increasing bandwidth utilization of an aggregated path by a mobile terminal, the method including: establishing the aggregated path of communication with the mobile terminal, where the aggregated path includes a first path including a High Throughput Satellite (HTS) path having a first available capacity and a second path including a wireless path having a second available capacity; tracking the first and second available capacities; and updating, upon a movement of the mobile terminal, the first available capacity based on a distance of the mobile terminal from a satellite beam center of a current satellite beam; and selecting, to communicate a packet, one of the first and seconds path based on the first and the second available capacities.

Systems and methods for estimating the kind of traffic a VPN is carrying and determining which WAN connection to use for VPN network traffic to reduce usage costs while maintaining responsiveness in a VPN router or gateway. A VPN classifier examines VPN packets and estimates the type of traffic they are carrying and selects a policy for upstream or downstream traffic to determine which tunnel or tunnels to send network traffic. Further, policies may be applied to VPN packets as a function of usage knob.

VPN classification to reduce usage costs while retaining responsiveness

Systems, methods, and apparatus, including computer-readable media, for enhanced network communication using multiple network connections. In some implementations, a networking apparatus concurrently maintains connectivity to a network through each of multiple network transports. The networking apparatus receives one or more packets to be transmitted over the network and classifies the one or more packets to determine a class of service. The networking apparatus selects one of the multiple network transports to transmit the one or more packets based on (i) the class of service for the one or more packets and (ii) measures of expected latency for transmission of the one or more packets over the respective multiple network transports. The networking apparatus transmits the one or more packets using the selected network transport.

Enhanced network communication using multiple network connections

An accelerator and system to provide a combined transport Wide-Area Network (WAN) transports. The accelerator includes a tunnel manager to maintain tunnels traversing each of the WAN transports; an inspector to perform packet and IP flow classification to set a respective classification metric for a downstream packet to be sent over the combined transport; a transport selector to select a preferred tunnel from the tunnels based on the respective classification metric of the downstream packet; and a sender to send the downstream packet over the preferred tunnel. In the accelerator, the WAN transports include a high latency satellite transport and a low latency transport, and a respective tunnel connects the accelerator to a peer accelerator via one of the WAN transports. The accelerator includes a receiver to receive upstream packets arriving over the combined transport and to forward the upstream packets to a user equipment.

Accelerating satellite access with low latency diversity transport

An apparatus and method for classifying traffic data in a communication network based on IP flow. Traffic data in a communication network is monitored in order to detect an IP flow. A preliminary classification is assigned to the IP flow based on protocol information contained in its first packet. Subsequent packets within the IP flow are further monitored, and the IP flow is reclassified based, in part, on the domain name of the responding server. Web pages can also be classified, and monitored to determine their response time.

A method for isolating packet loss on a hierarchical packet network, the method including: connecting a first network element (NE) to a second NE via a varying path traversing multiple network segments; discovering, with the first NE, a set of segment-demarcation expect-to-echo nodes along the varying path; ascertaining, with the first NE, a request-to-echo configuration for each node in the set; emitting a sample size of requests-to-echo in a respective request-to-echo configuration for each node in the set at a sample rate; receiving results of the sample size of requests-to-echo to generate a packet-loss sample; and calculating a rate-of-loss for the packet-loss sample.
