A method for rendering an e-mail item listing within a graphical user interface of an e-mail application on a display device is disclosed. The method includes receiving an input from an input device to select a first item of the e-mail item listing, applying a first selection highlighting to the first item, wherein the applied first selection highlighting is visually distinguishable from a background color of the e-mail item listing, identifying a second item of the e-mail item listing based on a relation of the second item to the first item, and applying a second selection highlighting to the second item, wherein the applied second selection highlighting is visually distinguishable from the first selection highlighting and the background color.

A method and computer program product for defining an activity. One or more members of the activity are defined. At least one piece of content is associated with the activity, thus defining at least one associated piece of content that is accessible by at least a portion of the members of the activity. A method is provided to assist a user in selecting, identifying, and handling email messages. A display of color coding and selection highlighting may be provided. A secondary highlighting color may be provided to indicate messages related to a selected message. One or more of the following may also be provided: an indicator that provides the user with a number of items that are off the screen for a particular category, a command that causes the first entry for a category to be scrolled into view, a label to indicate the number of items in a particular category matching a particular criteria, and/or a control for scrolling between next or previous categories.

A system and method are provided for generating one or more menus having options that display insights from visualizations. The options presented in the menus enable users to determine relationships between elements of the visualization. When electronic mail is to be sent by an off-line user to a recipient who holds a digital certificate, the sender's mail program allows the sender to compose the mail, but the mail is placed in plain text in the sender's local outbox and flagged for subsequent encryption. When the sender later connects to a mail server to send the outgoing mail, the sender's mail software, in response to the flagged mail will request the recipient's certificate from the server and use the received certificate to encrypt the mail message before it leaves the sender's workstation. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, after using a digital certificate to encrypt a mail message, the certificate is discarded. In accordance with another embodiment, if the certificate is not available or located by the mail server, a message is sent to the sender informing him that the certificate cannot be located and the mail cannot be sent in encrypted form. At that point, the sender has an option to resend the mail in unencrypted form.
