Process and formulation for producing a polyamide having low caprolactam concentration and specific relative viscosity

A terpolymer composition is described that contains a statistical amount of 50-98 wt % of a first repeating AA-BB comonomer unit; 1-25 wt % of a second repeating AA-BB comonomer unit; and 1-25 wt % of a repeating lactam comonomer unit or 1-25 wt % of a third repeating AA-BB comonomer unit, where the terpolymer composition exhibits a high melting point similar to that of PA66 while also exhibiting a significantly reduced crystallization rate and crystallization temperature.

Nylon terpolymers

Provided herein are polymer films including a polyamide composition of PA6 and PA66/6. The provided films are particularly useful as packaging materials as they exhibit improved toughness, e.g., puncture and impact resistance, relative to that of conventional films that include only PA6 as a polyamide component. Also provided are methods for making the provided films, and articles that include the provided films.

An apparatus is described for producing concave or convex optically magnified facets about a gem, each facet being a curved surface that is a section of a cylinder. It utilizes a mandrel having an exterior and/or interior cylindrical abrasive surface. The surface is contacted by a gem indexed and adjustably held by a gem support structure. The mandrel is angularly movable about its central axis. It can also be reciprocated along the axis to prevent formation of random striations across the facet surfaces. An adjustable stabilizer can be preset to engage a dop attached to a gem at a location adjacent to the mandrel. This assures accurate reengagement of the gem after movement from the mandrel for interium inspections during the faceting precedure. The method of producing the optically magnified facets requires successive indexing of the gem and bringing it into contact with an angularly moving cylindrical abrasive surface. The resulting gem can have one or more curved facets about its outer surfaces having the form of a section of a cylinder. These facet surfaces can be either concave or convex. A preselected pattern of grooved facets can be produced across the curved facets by polishing then against a complementary moving mandrel surface.

Concave-convex faceting method and apparatus

Apparatus as described for centering a collet chuck relative to the longitudinal axis of a dop arm for a gem faceting machine. The apparatus includes a socket mounted to the dop arm and a plug slidably received within an open longitudinal bore formed within the socket. The plug mounts a collet chuck. Two longitudinally spaced sets of screws extend radially into the socket. The individual screws of the two sets can be turned against the plug to adjust the collet chuck into a secure precise coaxial relation with the dop arm axis.

Collet chuck aligning assembly for gem faceting machines

A matched pair of coaxial milling wheels for small flour mills such as those used in homes. A stationary milling wheel and an adjacent rotatable milling wheel each have a common central axis. Each includes first and second radial surfaces spaced along the axis. The adjacent faces of the wheels have a center cavity extending axially inward and defining the inner periphery of an annular milling face extending to the wheel periphery. Complementary grooves are formed in the milling face of both wheels to feed grain radially outward from the central cavities and to assist in cracking and grinding the particles to a fine state. The wheels are formed integrally from fired stoneware and have machined flat annular rims about the milling faces to assure accurate final grinding of the particles before they exit from the space between the two wheels.

Milling wheels for small flour mills

A mill for grinding flour and the like. Two flat grinding discs are mounted in opposed relation to one another. One disc is non-rotatably mounted with respect to the housing that supports it, while the other is rotated by a motor drive. The non-rotatable disc coaxially supports the shaft for the rotatable disc. The non-rotatable disc can be adjusted axially to vary the spacing between the grinding surfaces of the respective discs. Provision is also made for yieldable movement between the discs in response to the grinding load.

Grinding mill

An adjustable faceting head support assembly having an upright mast with a longitudinal open groove that receives an elongated vertical lead screw. The lead screw is mounted within the groove about an axis parallel to the axis of the mast. A collar assembly encompasses the lead screw and mast for longitudinal sliding movement along the mast. A half nut mechanism provided on the collar enables selective engagement and disengagement with the lead screw. An adjusting knob at an upper end of the lead screw allows for precise rotation of the lead screw to locate the faceting head at a precise position with respect to a lap surface when the half nut is engaged with the lead screw. When the half nut is disengaged from the lead screw, the faceting head may be moved freely along the mast axis, permitting one to quickly position the faceting head over the lap.
