Closures with a tamper evidence feature that is reshaped to connect it to the container neck are disclosed. Methods and systems for carrying out the methods, and to mold stacks for making the closures are also disclosed. The tamper evidence feature can be a band, a portion of a cylindrical skirt or a panel formed in the cylindrical skirt. The application of heat may deform the band inwardly to create a lip for engaging a flange on the container neck, or it may weld the tamper evidence feature to the flange.

In one aspect, a method of molding a multilayer article comprises causing a surface layer material injection unit to commence injecting a surface layer material into a mold cavity via a surface layer material channel. Then, an internal layer material injection unit commences injecting an internal layer material into the mold cavity an internal layer material channel. Then, during application of a hold pressure upon the surface layer material in the surface layer material channel and with the surface and internal layer material injection units in fluid communication with one another, a pullback stroke is effected at the internal layer material injection unit. After a delay interval, at least one physical parameter indicative of a post-pullback pressure of the internal layer material is detected, and an indicator of pullback effectiveness is generated based on the post-pullback pressure indicated by the at least one physical parameter relative to a threshold pressure.

Injection molding of multilayer articles with post-pullback pressure monitoring

In one aspect there is disclosed a method of improving shot repeatability in a multilayer reciprocating screw injection molding apparatus by preventing pressure communication or 'cross-talk' between melt channels. In the first aspect an outlet nozzle valve is closed prior to closing a check valve within an injection unit of the multilayer reciprocating screw injection molding apparatus. In another aspect there is disclosed a method of improving shot repeatability in a reciprocating screw injection molding apparatus by recording a first position of a screw within the barrel of an injection unit of a reciprocating screw injection molding apparatus, the first position corresponding to a volume of melt within the barrel of the material injection unit. A second position of the screw is then calculated based on the first position, the second position corresponding to a transition position of the screw within the barrel of the injection unit of the reciprocating screw injection molding apparatus.

Method of securing a closure on a container

There is disclosed a method () of ejecting a molded article () from an injection mold (). The method () comprises: during a second portion of the mold opening cycle of the injection mold (), the second portion occurring later in time relative to a first portion of the mold opening cycle of the injection mold (): controlling velocity of at least one of: (i) the moveable mold half () relative to the stationary mold half (), (ii) the ejector () relative to the moveable mold half (); and (iii) an ejector actuator linked to the core insert (); and (iv) a stripper actuator that is linked to the stripper sleeve (); the controlling executed such that the molded article () is ejected from the molding component with a substantially zero departure-velocity along the first axis of operation.

Molding apparatus and method of controlling same

A method and apparatus for extrusion of an article is provided. A die assembly can apply flows of thermoplastic material to an array of reinforcing cables to form a composite extrusion. A slider fabric can be bonded to one side of the composite extrusion. After exiting the die assembly, the slider fabric can act to support the extrudate as it passes along an elongate mandrel, which can cause the base of the slider fabric to change shape from a flat profile to the final internal profile of the article. The extruded article can then be cooled to solidify the material. The die can include cooling for the slider fabric and means for promoting penetration of the thermoplastic into reinforcing cables.

An article may include a carcass or jacket, and at least one composite member arranged within the carcass or jacket for inhibiting longitudinal stretch of the article. The composite member may include a plurality of fibers arranged in a polymeric binder, the polymeric binder bonding the composite member to the carcass or jacket. The carcass or jacket may be formed substantially of rubber or thermoplastic elastomer. The plurality of fibers may include fibers formed substantially from at least one of S-glass, aramid and carbon fiber. The polymer binder may be formed substantially of a thermoplastic material or of a thermoset material. In manufacturing of the article, the carcass or jacket may be extruded to surround the composite member. The article may be a handrail or an elevator belt.

Articles having composite member for inhibiting longitudinal stretch

A method of and apparatus for extruding an article of uniform cross-section, the article including a thermoplastic material and at least one cable for inhibiting stretch of the article. The cable is supplied to a respective tube and is conveyed between upstream and downstream ends. The thermoplastic material may be supplied to the downstream end of the tube. The thermoplastic material is brought together with the cable to embed the cable within the thermoplastic material, thereby forming a composite extrudate. The tube is configured to at least hinder movement of loose windings of the cable from the downstream end towards the upstream end, which may prevent or at least reduce incidence of 'birdcaging'.

Disclosed herein, amongst other things, is a control structure for a molding system (). Apparatus for extrusion of thermoplastic handrail

Disclosed, amongst other things, is a molding apparatus and an injection molding process. The molding apparatus includes a positioner that is configured to regulate, in use, a relative position between a gate member and a nozzle of a melt distribution apparatus between a retracted position and an extended position for adjusting a volume of a nozzle melt reservoir that is definable between the gate member and the nozzle between a reduced volume and an expanded volume, respectively. The injection molding process includes regulating a relative position between a gate member and a nozzle of a melt distribution apparatus, with a positioner, into one of a retracted position and an extended position for adjusting a volume of a nozzle melt reservoir that is definable between the gate member and the nozzle between a reduced volume and an expanded volume, respectively.

Disclosed herein is a molten molding material dispenser for use in a molding machine and/or molding machine assemblies. The dispenser includes an outlet body defining an outlet, and also includes an outlet cover being operatively movable relative to the outlet, any one of the outlet body, the outlet cover and any combination thereof being magnetically movable, the outlet body and the outlet cover being mechanical-actuation disengaged.

In a reciprocating (RS) injection unit environment, as shown in FIG., a controller of the injection unit is arranged to continuously rotate the screw during both conventional plasticizing operation and shot injection. In this way the RS unit is more efficient, utilizing less energy and producing greater resin output. The injection unit includes a non-return valve adjacent a nozzle, which non-return valve is either configured to rotate with the screw to reduce wear or presented as a ball check style noon-return valve. In an injection molding environment, the rotating screw includes flights that allow granules of resin to melt and mix in spaces between adjacent flights, but the flights are arranged substantially to inhibit excessive displacement of resin around the flights.
