A system for calibrating tool depth as an agricultural implement is moved across a field may include an implement frame and a ground-engaging tool supported on the implement frame, with the ground-engaging tool configured to penetrate soil present within the field to a penetration depth. Additionally, the system may also include a frame position sensor configured to capture data indicative of a distance between the implement frame and a surface of the field. Furthermore, a controller of the disclosed system may be configured to determine a penetration depth value of the ground-engaging tool based on a received input. Moreover, the controller may be configured to determine a correction factor based on the data captured by the frame position sensor. In addition, the controller may be configured to adjust the determined penetration depth value based on the determined correction factor to calibrate the penetration depth value.

In one aspect, a system for controlling the operation of an agricultural implement may include a ground-engaging tool configured to engage soil within a field such that the tool creates a field material cloud aft of the tool as the implement is moved across the field. Furthermore, the system may include an imaging device configured to capture image data associated with the field material cloud created by the ground-engaging tool. Moreover, a controller of the disclosed system may be configured to identify a plurality of field material units within the field material cloud based on the image data captured by the imaging device. Additionally, the controller may be configured to determine a characteristic associated with the identified plurality of field material units.

System and method for controlling agricultural implements based on field material cloud characteristics

An agricultural planting or seeding implement includes a frame, at least one row unit, one or more imaging devices, and a processor. The at least one row unit includes a seed trench opening assembly extending along an opening line and configured to open a seed trench, a seed deposition assembly configured to deposit a seed in the open seed trench, and a seed trench closing assembly extending along a closing line and configured to close the seed trench. The one or more imaging devices capture images of a field behind the agricultural planting implement as the agricultural planting implement traverses the field. The processor processes the images captured by the one or more imaging devices, including determining a location of the opening line based on the captured images, determining a location of the closing line based on the captured images, determining whether the opening line and the closing line are aligned with one another, and determining a corrective action to bring the opening line and the closing line into alignment in response to determining that the opening line and the closing line are not aligned with one another.
