A method reclaims metalized polymer film or mixtures containing metal and/or metal alloys into a metal-containing, polymeric film. The resulting film structure has better oxygen and moisture barrier properties when metalized than plain metalized polymer films. The polymer to be reclaimed, originates in sheet form, and is densified, as by shredding, pelletizing and/or re-extruding into fine particulate form such as chips or pellets. The reclaimed polymeric film can be used, in a range of concentrations, to produce biaxially oriented polyester film for metalizing.

Barrier film with reclaimed metalized polyester

A substrate composite film for thermal transfer printing includes a biaxially oriented base layer including polyester, a first type of lubricant particles, and a second type of lubricant particles. The substrate composite film satisfies the following: (1) a ratio of maximum height SRma and peak count SPc is 1&#x2266;SRma/SPc&#x2266;4.5, (2) a center plane average roughness Sra is 15 to 30 nm, (3) coefficient of dynamic friction is &#x3c;0.60, and (4) 20 and 60 degree gloss is greater than 160 SGU. The 20 degree gloss may be equal in all directions, and the 60 degree gloss may be equal in all directions.

Polyester film with smooth surface properties for winding and printing

Described are stretchable and formable lighter than air balloons including a high barrier lamination. The stretchable and formable balloons stretch when overinflated instead of failing. The balloons are formed from a lamination including a polyester film with a total thickness of 4 &#x3bc;m to 12 &#x3bc;m including a biaxially oriented polyester core layer and at least one amorphous copolyester skin layer. The polyester film has an Elongation % in the transverse direction (TD) or machine direction (MD) of greater than 125%.

Stretchable and formable lighter than air balloons made from a biaxially oriented polyester film

Described are methods for recycling biaxially oriented thermoplastic crystallizable films, such as polyester terephthalate (PET) films, that have been coated with various polymers or waxes that are immiscible in the primary molten thermoplastic. The resultant processed recycle can be used to make new biaxially oriented thermoplastic films while avoiding process instability and optical defects in the finished film associated with immiscible polymeric and/or wax coatings.
