Systems and methods of transmitting location data based on wireless communication activity can include a location transmitting device having a sensor communicatively coupled to a low-power transmitter. The transmitter (e.g., a Bluetooth&#x2122; transmitter) can transmit location data from which an electronic device can derive its location. The sensor can be a sensor configured to detect wireless data transmissions (e.g., cellular data transmissions). In one example, the transmitter can transmit location data in response to the sensor detecting data transmissions of an electronic device. The transmitter can remain in an idle, standby, or otherwise low-power state until the sensor detects data transmissions of an electronic device. In response, the transmitter can transmit data which can be received by the electronic device. The electronic device can then derive the electronic device's location from the data transmitted by the transmitter.

System and method of transmitting location data based on wireless communication activity

A distribution list identifies a plurality of recipient addresses for electronic messages. Normal updates to the distribution list can be performed via update commands from an authorized address that is stored in association with the distribution list as authorized to update the distribution list. When a removal command is received from a specific recipient address, which is not authorized to update the distribution list, the specific address can be removed from the distribution list. When an addition command is received from the specific address, a new address can be added to the distribution list. Before sending an outbound electronic message, the distribution list is resolved to the current set of recipient addresses.

There is provided a method and apparatus for allowing a user of a mobile device to securely access a storage device of a home network of the user. The method and apparatus advantageously allow for the user to share data stored on the home network with other users, or to give full or restricted access to other computing devices. The apparatus consists of a network element residing on the home network of the user, which enables communications between the network storage and the mobile device when the mobile device is in a remote location.

A connectivity monitor/controller. A wireless connection is established between a mobile device and a docking station that also communicates with external device(s) each configured to selectably communicate with the mobile device via a connectivity through the docking station or through a direct connection with the mobile device. The docking station receives a connectivity assignment specifying external device(s) and a respective connectivity between the mobile device and the specified external device. Each specified connectivity is established based on the connectivity assignment. A display indicating a connectivity configuration including an indication of each specified external device and an indication of each external device's respective connectivity is generated, where the indication of the respective connectivity indicates either a connectivity through the docking station or a direct connectivity, or both.

A device, method and system for efficiently powering a near field communication device are provided. The device comprises: a module configured to: exchange data with a near field communication (NFC) device; and transmit energy to the NFC device; and, a processor configured to: receive, using the module, energy data from the NFC device, the energy data comprising data for determining a difference between a current energy level of an energy storage apparatus at the NFC device and a given amount of energy for performing a given function at the NFC device; determine the difference from the energy data; and, transmit, using the module, an amount of energy corresponding to the difference, to the NFC device.

Device, method and system for efficiently powering a near field communication device

A docking station apparatus and method provides wireless power and wireless communications to a mobile device, and provides or establishes connections to one or more external devices such as monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, and networks. In response to detection of the presence of the mobile device, the docking station is enabled to transfer wireless power to the mobile device and communicate wirelessly with the mobile device. The docking station also provides or establishes connections to external devices in response to one or more connectivity assignments.

An adjustable output power supply with a data communications connector that at least partially complies with physical specifications of a defined data interface standard connector, such as a USB connector. The data communications connector has a number of data contacts and power contacts coupled to and providing output electrical power from a programmable power supply. A controller receives an indication of a detection of a feature of a mating connector coupled to the data communications connector, determines, based on receiving the detection, at least one resistance value between a data contact and at least one power contact, and adjusts an output voltage of the programmable power supply based on the at least one resistance value.

A wireless device for providing notifications associated with a mobile electronic device is provided. The device comprises: an indicator; a body enabled to mate with a mobile electronic device, the body comprising the indicator such that when the body is mated to the mobile electronic device, the indicator is not obscured by the body; an induction device for wirelessly receiving signals from the mobile electronic device to control the indicator; and, a circuit connecting the induction device to the indicator, the circuit enabled to receive the signals and control the indicator in response thereto.

A method for providing location information such as a map in an underground or shielded environment entails storing first near-field communication (NFC) data obtained by reading a first NFC tag at a first location, reading a second NFC tag at a second location, obtaining map data for an area encompassing the first and second locations, and displaying a map showing the first location and the second location.
