An off-gas analyzer for analyzing HO vapor, CO, O, COand/or Hin a furnace gas stream is fluidically coupled to a gas extraction probe. The analyzer includes an optical measurement cell having multiple sampling chambers, optically coupled to a laser. The analyzer measuring cell is housed within a heated cabinet having a heater operable to heat the interior thereof so as to maintain the extracted gas sample therein at a temperature about the condensation point of water. The analyzer allows for the analysis of the gas water vapour of wet off-gas samples.

System and method for analyzing dusty industrial off-gas chemistry

Compositions suitable for use as an inoculant for cast iron. The composition includes granules of intermetallic alloys selected from Al,Sr, Al,Sr, and AlSr. The composition consists essentially of 40 to 81 percent strontium by weight.

Strontium-aluminum intermetallic alloy granules

Aluminum-strontium enriched master alloy granules for use primarily in modifying the eutectic phase in aluminum-silicon casting alloys. The master alloy granules are predominantly intermetallic compounds Al.sub.4 Sr, Al.sub.2 Sr or AlSr and mixtures thereof. By using such intermetallic dominant alloys in a granulated state rapid dissolution in aluminum-silicon alloy melts is achieved. The master alloy composition can be directly added to a content of the melt or injected into it. The master alloy composition can also be mixed with aluminum granules and extruded into a rod or entrained into a billet of cast aluminum.

Aluminum-strontium enriched master alloy granules for use primarily in modifying the eutectic phase in aluminum-silicon casting alloys. The master alloy granules are predominantly intermetallic compounds Al.sub.4 Sr, Al.sub.2 Sr or Alsr and mixtures thereof. Process and apparatus for adding calcium and aluminum to molten lead to produce a lead-calcium alloy suitable for battery grids. Particles of calcium and aluminum metal or alloys thereof are fed into the interior of a tubular housing having a wall extending down into the molten lead and having a bottom opening at a relatively large depth below the lead surface and having openings in its wall at a relatively small depth below the lead surface. A rotary impeller which acts at least partially as a centrifugal impeller is positioned in the housing to cause swirling of lead carrying the particles within the housing, the shape of the housing and the nature and position of the impeller being such as to ensure that lead carrying the particles is swirled against the housing wall and recirculated within the housing before the lead leaves the housing.

Method for adding aluminum and calcium to molten lead

A substantially non-explosive mixed powder containing finely divided metallic particles suitable for being incorporated in a refractory mixture, intimately mixed together with inert refractory particles. The refractory particles are present in such particle sizes and quantities as ensure that the Minimum Explosible Concentration, as tested in a 20-L vessel with a chemical igniter, is greater than 100 gm/m.sup.3. The inert particles comprise at least 40% of the mixture, and preferably 50% to 80%. The invention also includes a premixed powder, of the metallic and refractory powder, especially as contained in a shipping container in drums or impermeable bags. Due to the presence of the refractory powder, the mixed powder can be shipped without the precautions usually needed for shipping finely divided metal powders.

Non-explosive fine metallic powder mixtures for making refractories

A process for producing a substantially non-explosive powder containing finely divided metallic particles suitable for being incorporated in a refractory mixture, comprising simultaneously grinding a mixture of pieces of metal with pieces of an inert refractory material to produce a premixture containing finely divided metallic particles and finely divided refractory particles which are intimately mixed together. The refractory particles are present in such particle sizes and quantities as ensure that the Minimum Explosible Concentration, as tested in a 20-L vessel with a chemical igniter, is greater than 100 gm/m.sup.3. The inert particles comprise at least 40% of the mixture, and preferably 50% to 75%. The invention also includes a premixed powder, produced by this process, especially as contained in drums or impermeable bags.

Production of non-explosive fine metallic powders

A novel alloy for use in lead refining is disclosed comprised substantially of magnesium and calcium. The preferred ratio on a weight basis of magnesium to calcium is between about 1.2:1 to about 3.0:1. A method of refining a lead bath with the novel alloy is disclosed which provides a high recovery ratio of impurities present therein.

Magnesium-calcium alloys for debismuthizing lead

Magnesium alloys having improved corrosion resistance, one alloy containing not more than 0.0024% iron, 0.010% nickel and 0.0024% copper and not less than 0.15% manganese and the other containing not more than 0.0015% iron, 0.0010% nickel and 0.0010% copper and not less than 0.15% manganese.

A novel alloy for use in lead refining is disclosed comprised substantially of magnesium and calcium.
