A telescoping mirror pivot assembly comprises a telescoping frame assembly, a central shaft, and a mirror head. The telescoping frame assembly may include a first end and a second end. The central shaft may be coupled to the first end of the telescoping frame assembly. The central shaft may include a detent manual fold arm. The detent manual fold arm may comprise a first detent and a second detent. The first detent may be configured to mechanically secure the telescoping frame assembly in a first position. The second detent may be configured to mechanically secure the telescoping frame assembly in a second position. The mirror head may be coupled to the second end of the telescoping frame assembly. The telescoping frame assembly may be configured to transition from the first position to the second position when a first force is applied in a first direction to the mirror head.

A power telescoping mirror pivot assembly includes a base frame, a first telescoping arm and a second telescoping arm, wherein the first telescoping arm is pivotally attached at its first end of the base frame and the second telescoping arm is pivotally attached at its first end to the base frame, a telescoping frame assembly comprising a telescoping motor, wherein the telescoping motor is mounted to the telescoping frame assembly and is attached at a second end of the first telescoping arm and at a second end of the second telescoping arms, and a mirror head attached to the telescoping frame assembly.

A power telescoping external vehicle rearview assembly comprising a drive gear assembly for telescopically moving a rearview head between a retracted and an extended position is disclosed. An embodiment of the rearview assembly comprises a bracket mountable to a vehicle, a rearview head telescopically mounted to the bracket via a plurality of arm assemblies, a rearview element mounted to the rearview head, an electric motor mounted to the rearview head, and a gear assembly connected between the motor and the plurality of arm assemblies. An embodiment of the gear assembly comprises pinion drive gear assemblies with rolling clutches for selectively disengaging the motor from the arm assemblies, a fixed clutch assembly for transferring power from the motor to the pinion drive gear assemblies, and a drive shaft connecting the fixed clutch assembly to the pinion drive gear assemblies.

Powered telescoping drive system

The present disclosure provides an actuator assembly for a mirror head. The actuator includes a tubular member, an inner carriage, an outer carriage, a helix drive shaft and a motor drive. The inner carriage includes one or more inner magnets. The outer carriage is coupled to the mirror head. The outer carriage includes one or more outer magnets magnetically coupled to the one or more inner magnets of the inner carriage. The helix drive shaft is drivably coupled to the inner carriage. The motor drive is configured to rotate the helix drive shaft relative to the tubular member. Upon rotation of the helix drive shaft by the motor drive, the inner carriage translates. The outer carriage also translates along with the inner carriage due to magnetic coupling between the one or more inner magnets and the one or more outer magnets.

A rearview device for a vehicle includes a rearview device head, a rearview device base including a base frame, and a detent assembly which is configured to control rotation of the rearview device head with respect to the rearview device base. The detent assembly is configured to lock and unlock rotation of the rearview device head with respect to the rearview device base without vertical movement of the rearview device head with respect to the rearview device base.

A support assembly for a mirror head includes a support arm defining a longitudinal axis. A top slot wall and a bottom slot wall of the support arm extend at least partly along the longitudinal axis and at least partly define a slot therebetween. The top slot wall defines an opening therethrough. A ramp extends from the bottom slot wall towards the top slot wall adjacent to the opening. The support assembly further includes inboard and outboard trunnions that are adapted to be at least partly and movably received in the slot. A carriage is coupled to the outboard trunnion and the mirror head. A support brace is rotationally coupled to the inboard and outboard trunnions. The outboard trunnion selectively travels on the ramp and through the opening to allow the support brace to be inclined obliquely relative to the longitudinal axis and the carriage to be rotated.

A motor vehicle includes mating features in a sheet metal of the motor vehicle, an exterior rearview device assembly fixedly secured to the motor vehicle, where the exterior rearview device assembly includes a structural base frame that mates to the mating features of the sheet metal at a mounting plane, and a tuned mass damper secured to the structural base frame adjacent to the mounting plane. In an example, a primary axis of movement of the tuned mass damper is at least one of substantially parallel with or substantially perpendicular to the mounting plane. In another example, the tuned mass damper is configured to dampen resonant vibrations being generated by the motor vehicle.

A method for creating a concave section of glass from a glass substrate having flat surfaces includes the use of a grinding wheel and a turntable. The method includes the steps of securing the glass substrates to the turntable. The turntable is then spun to create a turntable axis of rotation. The grinding wheel is rotated about a wheel axis of rotation such that the wheel axis of rotation is perpendicular to the turntable axis of rotation. The grinding wheel and the turntable move relative to each other along the turntable axis of rotation. The glass substrate is ground by the grinding wheel contacting the glass substrate to create the concave section of glass while the glass substrate is rotating about the wheel axis of rotation and moving relative to the turntable.

Method for creating a complex surface on a substrate of glass

A mirror assembly for a motor vehicle includes a base that is fixedly secured to the motor vehicle. A housing is fixedly secured to the base. The housing defines an opening. A mirror is operatively secured to the housing at the opening. The mirror defines a main viewing portion and a spotting mirror portion wherein the main viewing portion and the spotting mirror portion are fabricated from a unitary structure. The mirror is a reflective element and defines a main viewing portion of one curvature and a spotting mirror portion for viewing the blind spot which is defined by having a radius of curvature less than the main viewing portion. Both viewing portions of the mirror are integral to one unitary structure that is fabricated from sheet metal such as steel, stainless steel, or aluminum that may optionally be chrome plated, polished, or anodized.

An exterior rearview mirror assembly for a motor vehicle is disclosed having a bracket which is fixedly secured to the motor vehicle. A mirror casing is secured to the bracket. The mirror casing defines a primary opening. A primary mirror is disposed within the primary opening and provides a view rearward of the motor vehicle through a primary field of view. A spotting mirror is disposed adjacent the primary mirror. The spotting mirror is defined by a single radius of curvature differing from the primary mirror such that the spotting mirror provides a secondary field of view rearward of the motor vehicle.

Exterior rearview mirror for motor vehicles

A mount assembly and method of installing a headliner and a visor in a vehicle having a mounting surface. Initially, a first bracket is attached to a headliner. A second bracket is attached to an arm of a visor. A retainer is preferably attached to the second bracket in a snap-fit engagement, and temporarily attaches the first bracket to the second bracket, thereby defining a modular headliner assembly. The headliner assembly is then positioned adjacent the mounting surface. The second bracket is then moved relative to the first bracket, preferably by rotating, such that the mounting surface is disposed between portions of the first and second brackets, thereby securing the headliner assembly to the mounting surface. The retainer then no longer functions to temporarily attach the first bracket to the second bracket. Preferably headliner assembly is assembled in a manufacturing facility and subsequently transported to a vehicle assembly facility for securing to the mounting surface.
