A shaft assembly having: a first shaft with an inner facing surface having: an inner facing spline extending between spline ends; an inner facing projection, adjacent to one of the spline ends, extending to an inner facing projection surface; and an inner facing projection seat, adjacent to another of the spline ends; and a second shaft having an outer facing surface having: an outer facing spline extending between spline ends; an outer facing projection, adjacent to one of the spline ends of the outer facing spline, extending to an outer projection surface; and an outer facing projection seat, adjacent to another of the ends of the outer facing spline; the first shaft at least partially surrounds the second shaft; the inner facing projection surface is disposed against the outer facing projection seat; and the outer facing projection surface disposed against the inner facing projection seat.

Splined shaft assembly with piloting features

A system for relieving pressure from within a generator casing can include a generator shaft defining a shaft channel therein and at least one rotating valve disposed within the shaft channel of the generator shaft and in fluid communication with an interior of the generator casing and the atmosphere. The rotating valve is configured to allow fluid within the generator casing to flow through the generator shaft to the atmosphere in an open state and while rotating. The rotating valve is configured to prevent fluid within the generator casing from flowing in a closed state.

Pressure relief systems for generators

An electrical terminal device adapted to mount to a structure, and including a electrically non-conductive substructure, an electrically non-conductive cover, a heat resistant shroud, and an electric terminal. The substructure is in contact with the structure. The cover is engaged to the substructure. The substructure and the cover define a chamber, and the substructure defines, at least in-part, a sealed passage in communication with the chamber. The heat resistant shroud substantially covers the cover. The cover is substantially located between the shroud and the substructure. The electric terminal is located in the chamber and is attached to the substructure.

Electrical terminal device

A resistor pack assembly includes a first mounting plate, a second mounting plate, a cylindrical suppression resistor, and a cylindrical cover. The first mounting plate has a circular face, a first connection terminal, and a second connection terminal. The second mounting plate has a circular face, a third connection terminal and a fourth connection terminal. The cylindrical suppression resistor has a first flat surface and a second flat surface opposite the first flat surface, and is located between the first mounting plate and the second mounting plate, wherein the first flat surface contacts the circular face of the first mounting plate and the second flat surface contacts the circular face of the second mounting plate. The cylindrical cover has an inner diameter aperture, wherein the first mounting plate, the second mounting plate, and the cylindrical suppression resistor are located within the inner diameter aperture of the cylindrical cover.

Rotating resistor assembly

A rectifier assembly includes individual diodes arranged to form a full-wave bridge such that the silicon wafers of the diodes are loaded in compression. As so arranged, the centrifugal forces add to the compression forces on the diodes and on the electrical contacts therewith. The three-phase (AC) input conductors are connected by conductive straps which connect the diodes through to DC (+/&#x2212;) terminal ring outputs. One surface of each of the diodes is in electrical contact with a conductive strap which then connects with the individual (AC) phases of an exciter rotor winding. The opposing surface of the diode contacts the ring diode pad on either the DC (+/&#x2212;) output terminal ring. Two conductive posts, each of which are connected to only one of the DC (+/&#x2212;) output terminal rings permit external connection to a main rotor winding.

Rotating rectifier assembly

A starter/generator system for a gas turbine engine used in aeronautical applications that couples a single dynamoelectric machine to the gas turbine engine through a torque converter in a starting mode, and engages the engine to the dynamoelectric machine through a mechanical differential in a generating mode after the engine reaches self-sustaining speed and combines the output of the engine and the torque converter to regulate the frequency of AC generated by the dynamoelectric machine within a range of frequencies suitable for on-board electrical equipment by dynamically regulating the flow of hydraulic fluid to the torque converter.

Narrow range variable frequency starter/generator system

A starter/generator system for a gas turbine engine used in aeronautical applications that couples a single dynamoelectric machine to the gas turbine engine through a torque converter in a starting mode, and then disengages the torque converter and engages the engine to the dynamoelectric machine through an adjustable speed transmission in a generating mode after the engine reaches self-sustaining speed, wherein the speed of the adjustable speed transmission is set to match the frequency of AC generated by the dynamoelectric machine with on-board electrical equipment requirements to suit flight conditions.

Adjustable variable frequency starter/generator system

An endless loop transmission chain balances the differences in moments and stresses on its inner and outer links. The chain is comprised of a plurality of links that are pivotally connected in stacks and in overlapping series. The links are fashioned with holes perpendicular to the link faces, and the links are either &ldquo;robust&rdquo; or &ldquo;thin&rdquo;. Robust links may be made of material of greater tensile strength, they may be formed by mating at least two thin links, and/or they may be made of thicker material. A plurality of pins serially connects and stacks the links. The pins fit though the holes in each link perpendicular to the link face. Robust and thin links are alternated in stacks in a pattern that balances link tension when the chain is under tension. Fewer links carry the tension between any set of adjacent pins. When it is used in a transmission, this chain has at least 10% higher torque-carrying capacity than the prior art.

Link chain for a continuously variable transmission

A continuously variable transmission and method for preventing transmission belt slippage in the case of a sudden change in load torque on the transmission involve one or both of inserting a lag in the transmission with a torsional spring damper or elastomer damper device between the device to be driven and an output shaft of the secondary pulley of the transmission, and inserting a lag in a hydraulic pressure control loop of the transmission compensating for a difference between the rate of torque transmission between the device to be driven and the transmission, and a response rate of the hydraulic pressure control loop to a sudden change in load torque. The transmission is used to drive an aircraft electrical generator at a constant speed in the disclosed embodiment.
