A vehicle steering control system including a road wheel angle sensor for detecting a road wheel angle, a steering feedback motor for rotating a steering wheel in response to the road wheel angle and for generating a steering torque value in response to a physical rotation of the steering wheel by a vehicle driver, a processor for receiving the road wheel angle and the steering torque value, for estimating a steering wheel angle in response to the steering torque value and for generating a validated steering angle in response to a difference between the road wheel angle and the steering wheel angle being less than a threshold value, and a steering controller for controlling the steering of a vehicle in response to the validated steering angle.

A lunar rover includes a lunar rover body, at least one wheel coupled with the lunar rover body, a drive module coupled with the at least one wheel, the drive module configured to drive rotation of the at least one wheel over a surface, an extension arm coupled to the lunar rover body, an emitter array coupled to the extension arm, and a controller electrically connected with the emitter array. The controller is configured to control the emitter array to emit at least one of laser electromagnetic waves or maser electromagnetic waves towards the surface to sinter lunar regolith particles on the surface.

A system for detecting wear in an encoder used to sense a wheel speed in a vehicle comprises a sensor configured to sense the wheel speed of the vehicle by sensing a magnetic material on the encoder coupled to a wheel of the vehicle. A noise detection module includes a plurality of noise detectors configured to detect noise in a wheel speed signal generated by the sensor. An estimation module is configured to estimate a state of health of the encoder based on the noise detected in the wheel speed signal and to generate an alert in response to the state of health indicating that an amount of wear on the encoder is greater than a predetermined threshold. A filter is configured to filter the noise in the wheel speed signal and to output a filtered wheel speed signal to a control system controlling stability of the vehicle.

Prognostics system for detecting wear in encoders used to sense wheel speed in vehicles

An anti-lock braking system for a triple axle trailer having three axles and six wheels is disclosed. The system includes a first wheel speed sensor coupled to the first wheel of the trailer, a second wheel speed sensor coupled to the third wheel of the trailer, a spring mount pivotably coupled to the body of the trailer, a first suspension member coupled to the first wheel and to the spring mount and a second suspension member coupled to the second wheel and to the spring mount. The system includes a hydraulic braking actuator having a first channel coupled to the first wheel and the second wheel and a second channel coupled to the third wheel. The spring mount pivots in response to an applied brake torque to increase a normal force applied to the second wheel as compared to a normal force applied to the first wheel.

In accordance with an exemplary embodiment, an autonomous system is provided that includes: a tow vehicle, a trailer, and a control system. The tow vehicle has a vehicle battery. The trailer is coupled to the tow vehicle, and has a trailer battery. The control system includes a sensor and a processor. The sensor is configured to at least facilitate measuring a state of charge of the trailer battery. The processor is coupled to the sensor, and is configured to at least facilitate selectively providing current from the tow vehicle to the trailer based on the state of charge of the trailer battery.

Methods and apparatus are provided for assisted deceleration based trailer braking. The apparatus includes a trailer brake controller for applying a trailer brake in response to a brake control signal, a wheel speed sensor, an accelerometer for determining an acceleration, and a trailer controller for generating the brake control signal in response to a change in the acceleration indicating a negative value, the trailer controller further operative to couple the brake control signal to the trailer brake controller.
