There is provided by this invention an improved fenestration construction with an insulated glass pane construction. The fenestration can have a sash that includes an peripheral frame-like member which defines a central opening, an outer face and glazing engaging surfaces. A glazing engaging stop member constructed to cooperate with the peripheral frame-like member in forming the sash. A membrane which is gas and a moisture vapor flow resistant is applied to the glazing engaging surfaces. A primary and a secondary sealant is also applied to the membrane at the glazing engaging surfaces. The primary sealant is adjacent yet to-be-formed insulated space between the panes. The secondary seal is positioned outwardly thereof. An external pane is positioned in the sash and engages primary sealant and secondary sealant. A second pane is positioned in the sash space but generally parallel to the exterior pane and also engages sealant. The stop is then secured to the frame. The pane, sealants and membrane form an insulated space between the panes.

Fenestration and insulating construction

There is disclosed herein a fenestration for a building having a fenestration-securing opening cut therein. The fenestration includes a mounting frame assembly for fitting within the opening and a glazed sash carried in the mounting frame. The mounting frame and the sash each includes an extruded I-beam-like shaped core portion. The mounting frame core is constructed for securement to (a) an interior frame part, (b) exterior brick moulding or extrustion, (c) a sash weatherstripping and (d) a building flashing or seal. The sash core is an I-beam-like shaped extruded core having an interior member, exterior member, and glazing grasping portions. This construction permits the selective and flexible use of clear, finished, primed, unprimed, painted, stained, clad, etc., interior or exterior members and minimizes storage and inventory problems.

Extruded core sections for wood fenestration mounting frames and sashes

The insulated window assembly includes a pair of parallel-spaced glass panes, a plurality of intersecting metallic, internal muntin bars disposed in the space between the glass panes, a plurality of intersecting, wooden, exterior muntin bars affixed on the outer surface of the exterior glass pane and a plurality of wooden intersecting interior muntin bars affixed on the outer surface of the interior glass pane. The internal muntin bars have a thickness less than the space between the glass panes. The exterior and interior muntin bars are slightly wider than the internal muntin bars and are coincidentally aligned with each other and with the internal muntin bars to give the window panel assembly the appearance of a historically correct, authentic divided lite window having individual panes separated by conventional muntin bars.
