An ink tank comprises a housing that defines a container for ink that is substantially free from a negative pressure producing material. In various embodiments, a non-porous capillary member is disposed in the container. The capillary member may be formed by part of the housing, for example, by a channel formed in a side wall of the housing. Alternatively, the capillary member may be a capillary tube. A wick may be situated at an outlet formed in the housing and may be held there by a retaining member, for example, a rib that extends from the housing. The housing may include a cover that allows the container to vent to atmosphere. The cover may include a vent hole that communicates with the container via a tortuous path. Part of the cover may comprise an air permeable material. The housing may also define a spillover area outside of the container.

A container for storing a supply of toner therein includes a housing having an open end. A sealing member is mounted movably in the open end of the housing. The sealing member is adapted to move from a closed position sealing the open end of the housing to an open position enabling discharge of toner from the open position of the housing. A spring, in engagement with the sealing member, resiliently urges the sealing member from the open position to the closed position. In this way, the toner cartridge is sealed when remote from the printing machine and opens in response to being placed in the operative position in the printing machine.

An apparatus for cleaning an imaging surface with a hybrid cleaner that includes the implementation of a contamination seal in the cleaner unit. The contamination seal captures falling accumulated toner from the blade edge and in the brush nip, due to gravitation, which contaminates the xerographic area when the cleaner blade and disturber brush are retracted from the imaging surface. The contamination seal rests along the length of the blade portion that extends from the blade holder. In this position, the contamination seal does not touch the imaging surface to cause scratches nor does it interfere with the blade's ability to clean the imaging surface. Implementation of the contamination seal contains toner emission within the cleaner from the blade edge and brush nip.

An electrophotographic printing machine in which a moving photoconductive belt is supported in the region of the processing stations thereof. The photoconductive belt is guided in an endless path of movement. The region of the photoconductive belt opposed from at least one of the processing stations is maintained substantially planar with photoconductive belt flutter being substantially dampened.

An apparatus which transfers a developed image from a photoconductive surface to a copy sheet. The apparatus includes a corona generating device arranged to charge the copy sheet. This establishes a transfer field that is effective to attract the developed image from the photoconductive surface to the copy sheet. A blade is moved from a nonoperative position spaced from the copy sheet, to an operative position, in contact therewith. The blade presses the copy sheet into contact with at least the developed image on the photoconductive surface to substantially eliminate any spaces between the copy sheet and the developed image during transfer of the developed image from the photoconductive surface to the copy sheet.
