The present disclosure relates to a method of reactivating the surface of an organic paint coating, a method of facilitating adhesion of a further coating to the organic paint coating, and a substrate having a reactivated organic paint coating. There is also disclosed a surface reactivation treatment for an organic paint coating. The reactivation method also facilitates adhesion of the organic paint coating to further coating(s) across a broad application window.

Surface reactivation treatment

The present invention relates to a method of activating an organic coating to enhance adhesion of the coating to a further coating and/or to other entities comprising applying a solvent and a surface chemistry and/or surface topography modifying agent to the organic coating. The invention also relates to a coated substrate having an activated coating, wherein the adhesion of the coating to a further coating and/or other entities has been enhanced by application of a solvent and a surface chemistry and/or surface topography modifying agent to the coating. The invention further relates to an activation treatment for an organic coating to enhance adhesion of the coating to a further coating and/or to other entities comprising a solvent and a surface chemistry and/or surface topography modifying agent and a method for the preparation of the activation treatment.

Activation method using modifying agent

A coating includes at least one coating layer containing first particles, second particles, and third particles distributed throughout a cross-linked, continuous polymer matrix. An outer surface of the coating layer includes surfaces of at least first particles extending outward from a top periphery of the polymer matrix. The outer surface exhibits a property of delaying ice formation compared to the coating layer without the first particles. A method includes applying a coating composition in one application step. The one-step coating composition contains first particles, second particles, and third particles in a base containing a polymer. A coating composition includes first particles, second particles, and third particles distributed in a matrix precursor.

Coatings, coating compositions, and methods of delaying ice formation

An aero-contoured coating system is provided. The system has an aerodynamically functional coating having at least one or more color layers, one or more first clearcoat layers over the color layer(s) to obtain a pre-aero-contoured coating, the one or more first clearcoat layers configured for abrasion and aero-contouring to obtain an aero-contoured surface, and one or more additional clearcoat layers over the aero-contoured surface. The system further has a structure having a prepared and primed substrate surface with a primer layer. The system further has an aero-contouring device to abrade a plurality of flow surfaces on a pre-aero-contoured coated surface and to mechanically aero-contour a plurality of coating edges to reduce one or more coating edge peaks and coating edge angles of abutting coating edges between the one or more color layers. The system further has one or more masking elements for masking the one or more color layers.

Methods and systems for applying aerodynamically functional coatings to a surface

The present disclosure relates to polymers which are cross-linked reaction products of a reactive siloxane and/or a polyisocyanate and/or a polyol, a polyamine and/or reactive coating capable of reducing the ability of ice to adhere to the surface of an object, in particular aircraft or other vehicles, methods of producing the polymers and their use in coating surfaces.

Ice adhesion reducing polymers

The present disclosure relates to an FPOSS prepolymer which may be reacted with a reactive coating or a polyisocyanate and/or one or more of a polysiloxane, a polyol, a polyamine and a reactive coating; an FPOSS polyisocyanate prepolymer which may be reacted with one or more of a polysiloxane, a polyol, a polyamine or a reactive coating; and an FPOSS siloxane prepolymer which may be reacted with a polyisocyanate and/or one or more of a polyol, a polyamine or a reactive coating to form cross-linked polymers capable of reducing the ability of ice to adhere to the surface of an object, in particular aircraft or other vehicles, methods of producing the prepolymers and polymers and their use in coating surfaces.

Ice adhesion reducing prepolymers and polymers

A method for applying an aerodynamically functional coating to an exterior surface is provided. The method includes preparing an uncoated substrate surface to obtain a prepared substrate surface; applying a primer on the prepared substrate surface to obtain a primed substrate surface with a primer layer; applying and curing a basecoat field color to obtain a basecoat field color layer; masking for a basecoat design color on the basecoat field color layer; applying and curing the basecoat design color to obtain a first basecoat design color layer; masking for, applying, and curing any subsequent basecoat design color layers on the basecoat field color layer; applying and curing a clearcoat to obtain a first clearcoat layer; mechanically aero-contouring a plurality of coating edges to obtain an aero-contoured surface; and, applying additional clearcoat to obtain one or more additional clearcoat layers.

A method of activating an organic coating, a coated substrate having an activated coating and an activation treatment for an organic coating. In particular, the activation method improves the adhesion of the organic coating to further coating layers and/or to other entities.
